The Buzz
from Roxbury Village School
June 5, 2023
After today, there are 7.5 days of school remaining. Please note that our last day of school, Thursday June 15th, is an early release day and we will be dismissing at NOON on that day. Bridges will not be in session so all caregivers are encouraged to get in touch with Tina if there are changes that need to be made to your student's dismissal plans for that day.
Please take a minute to watch this SUPER CUTE video -- Student School Bus Song. Shout out to our amazing bus driver, Don Singer!

RVS Field Day
RVS Field Day will take place on Wednesday, June 7th. We have a morning full of fun activities planned. Mr. Chandler has done a great job organizing various events that will take place as students rotate from station to station. Students will enjoy a picnic style lunch outside on that day (weather permitting). Here are a few things to keep in mind so that everyone has a fun day:
- Apply sunscreen at home before coming to school
- Wear sneakers
- Dress for the weather and a day of play
- Bring a towel to sit on during lunch
Once again, our amazing Caregiver Group has agreed to sponsor a snow cone machine and inflatable bounce house for the afternoon. Due to the cooler temps in the forecast, it will not be a water slide. In the event of rain, the events will be modified so that they can take place indoors.
PLEASE NOTE: We had initially planned a rain date for Monday, June 12th. However, that forecast looks even worse.
Kindergarten Update
Well it was an exciting couple weeks with the chicks hatching out of the eggs and then watching them grow so much in a week alone! The students adored them and were so gentle with them when we were able to finally hold them. We have also been busy watching the tadpoles and hatched salamanders, and planting the gardens. We are finishing up subtraction in order to end the year with 3D shapes in math. We are finishing the year with force and motion in science. And in Literacy we are finishing writing our opinions and practicing reading and decoding skills. Hard to believe this is it!

Grades 1/2 Update
The students have done a wonderful job bearing with us teachers as we do our end of the year testing. It is great being able to see all of the growth that they have made throughout the school year. We are finishing the school year working on math skills such as measuring and being able to identify and write fractions. In writing we are working on opinion pieces, and being able to give reasons for our opinions. We are also learning about different types of bodies of water and being able to identify landforms. While we were in the forest last Friday we drew a landform map of the different landforms that surround us here in Roxbury.
Grades 3/4 Update
As the 3rd and 4th grade class nears the end of the school year, we have been spending lots of time wrapping up the school year with end of year assessments. We are closing out our final novel study of Kate DiCamillo's Tale of Despereaux. We are wrapping up a geography project in North America where we got to choose our own North American Country to research independently. And in Math we are completing our End of Year window panes where we review things we've touched on throughout the year.

News from Nurse Dot
The Dental Van will return on Friday, June 9th. Any student who was seen in the fall is eligible to be seen again for a routine check up, cleaning, and evaluation.
News from Bridges
It's hard to believe that this is the last week for Bridges! The last official day for Bridges is Friday, June 9th. Please be sure to let Tina know what the dismissal plans will be for your student during the last week of school.
The Bridges play, “How To Be A Pirate In 7 Songs” will take place Monday June 12th @ 5:00 pm. Only students in the play will be staying afterschool that day to prepare.
News from Music
As most of you know on Tuesday May 23rd we had our 2022-2023 School Year Spring Music Concert! I must say I was overwhelmed with pride, joy, and love felt while conducting our musical students during the concert. The hard work, determination and dedication put into this performance paid off! From Kindergarten’s Sesame Street Skit including Ocscars famous “I love Trash” transitioning into performing “Sunny days'' to the 1/2 Class soloist singing “Fight Song” and DRUMMERS accompanying those in the class singing “A Sky full of Stars;” Not to mention a select group from the class singing “Naughty,” with a few naughty interruptions for yours truly 🙂 (Ms.Hunt). Let’s talk about a surprising solo performance of a student in the 3/4 class singing the New Super Mario Movie’s “Peaches” by Jack Black! Not only did this student surprise his class but his parents! Let’s just say we found some hidden talent! Our recorder ensemble grew from 4 members to the whole class participating in playing “Hot Cross Buns.” With a solo recorder player…. transitioning into a sibling duet….. followed by small group playing “We will Rock You” on recorder. Not to mention our 3/4 drummers, tambourine and singers keeping the rock beat and joining in! It was definitely a Rockin’ time not only performing it but while we were preparing this number!
I'm not going to lie, I definitely teared up when conducting “A million Dreams,” the last number performed by all the students at RVS. It was a powerful moment followed by a Conga line to the Ice Cream Social, which was just the thing we all needed to make our way outdoors! For those of you who didn't make it all I can say is WOW! It truly was an all around spectacular evening that I will never forget!
Now that the Concert is over and last week we spent time talking about it in all k-4 music classes; we will be working on final formative assessments in each class this week (as report cards are due). I Know the data will show that students have improved in their musical skills throughout the year.
For more, please read the RVS Music Newsletter 6/5.
Bees of the Week!
Congratulations to Xavier and Cooper for being recognized as our RVS Bees of the Week! Both students were acknowledged for thier growth as Kindergarten students.
