Her email is ccabaniss@slaterschools.net.
May isn't that far away...
Seniors,
Jostens was here on Tuesday (10/27) to take orders for caps, gowns, and Senior Swag. You can still order online at GRADUATIONCENTRAL. The cost of caps and gowns goes up the later we get in the school year, because of the processing/shipping times.
Please note: Everyone needs a Jostens cap & gown. We have some in the High School office that students can borrow, and there are some options to help students pay for them - see Lady Crews or J Clem for details.
Please also note: The Senior Swag (Jostens sweats, etc) is nice, but not required.

October Board Meeting Information
The Board of Education met on Tuesday, October 27. Check out the HS Report below to see what've been up to in our Building!
FCA
* FCA is for 6-12 graders.
Important Information: Student Record Verification & Household Benefits
Email recap from 10/28:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Because our school participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), all enrolled students automatically receive free breakfast and lunch at school every day—no meal application is ever required.
However, state data matching with public assistance programs (such as SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid) helps our district qualify for critical educational resources, including Title I funding, classroom technology, advanced exam fee waivers, and eligibility for state benefits like Summer EBT. To qualify we must meet a minimum of 25% severe need requirement. In previous years we have met a 30%-59% severe need, this year we have only met 27%. With the decline in data matching it puts us at risk of not qualifying in upcoming years, we want to make sure every qualifying student in our school is accurately accounted for on state reports. You can help us ensure our state records are up to date by reviewing the quick checklist below.
How You Can Help Ensure Your Student is Counted:
- Verify Official Legal Information
State systems only match records if student details match state assistance files exactly. If your student’s official legal name, birth date, or home address in our school portal differs from what is listed on your state benefits account (SNAP/TANF/MO HealthNet), please contact our office so we can update our records. - Connect Household Siblings / Students
If any child or teenager in your household receives SNAP or TANF, all students living at the same address qualify for state direct matching. If you have students in the household who do not share the same last name or who recently moved in, please let us know so we can link them in our system. - Provide State Assistance Case Numbers
If your household receives SNAP or TANF benefits but you suspect your student might not be matched on state records, you may optionally provide your 10-digit state case number to our administration. This allows our office to run a direct manual lookup in the state database. - Special Support Circumstances
If your student is currently in foster care, residing in temporary housing, or experiencing housing instability, please contact our district liaison. These designations qualify students directly for state reporting without needing income or SNAP records.
Optional Information Return Form
(If applicable, please complete and return this section to the main office, or email details directly to Mindy Wiseman (mwiseman@slaterschools.net) or Tera Allen (tallen@slaterschools.net).
Student Full Legal Name(s): __________________________________________________
Date(s) of Birth: ___________________________________________________________
Primary Home Address: _______________________________________________________
Missouri SNAP or TANF Case Number (Optional): _______________________________
Does another child in your home receive SNAP/TANF benefits?
[ ] Yes — Name of matched student: __________________________________________
[ ] No
If you currently do not receive state assistance but would like to apply for SNAP (Food Stamps) or MO HealthNet, you can apply directly online through the Missouri Department of Social Services at mydss.mo.gov or by calling 855-823-4908. Increasing active SNAP households directly benefits our school’s program funding.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our student records accurate and supporting our school community!
Sincerely,
Dr. Terry Lorenz
Superintendent
Who's doing an AWESOME job?
Shout Outs may be shared on district social media or printed and given only to the recipient—whichever they prefer.
Anyone—staff or student—can recognize any staff member or student for being awesome.
Let the Shout Outs flow!
Wildcat Sideline Scoop #25 is here! This week, we recapped another busy week of Wildcat athletics, sat down for a Q&A with Lady Wildcat golfer Charlot Thorton, went More Than the Score with TRAP member Andrew Giger, and highlighted senior Maddy Gochenour in our Senior Spotlight!
Handbook Highlight
The Handbook Highlight is a recap of a handbook policy or entry that our Students/Adults need to be aware of. If I'm taking the time to include it, it's something to pay attention to - either because I'm seeing that people aren't clear on it, people aren't complying with it, or I'm about to crack down on it.
Tardies Grades 6-12
All students arriving to school after 7:58 am will be required to check in at the office upon arrival and obtain an admit slip prior to going to class. Tardies are cumulative for the semester and reports will be run on a bi-weekly basis.
4 tardies: 30-minute detention
5 tardies: 60-minute detention
6 tardies: 90 minute detention
7 tardies: 3 hour detention
8 tardies: 3 hour detention and closed lunch for one week
9 tardies: 3 hour detention and closed lunch for the rest of the semester
10 or more tardies: At administrator discretion, including but not limited to: Loss of good standing, assigned intervention, and possible OSS.
Cafeteria Menus
Centerstone Services
Monday starts the Second Quarter of School (!).
Read on for some reminders and clarifications you'll notice throughout the Building:
- If you're in the Cafeteria for lunch, check in with a Supervising Adult before you leave for the bathroom, patio, etc. As a safety measure, we need to know where our people are.
- The Cell Phone restrictions are a STATE LAW. In compliance with the law, if a student is in the cafeteria and asks to go to the bathroom (the only destination at lunch), he/she will leave their phone with a Supervising Adult while they're gone, just like we do in the classrooms.
- CHECK YOUR EMAIL. Read your emails - once before lunch and once after lunch.
- No blankets in the Building. If you need a coat, talk to me or to Mrs. Crews.
- No squishies, fidgets, stress toys that aren't part of a 504 plan/IEP, or approved by administration.
- Read the reminders below. It's all still in play.
from J Clem's 10/13 email:
Let's revisit a few things that have gotten loose over the past few weeks:
Morning Wanderers
Before the 7:54 a.m. bell, you may go to your locker, breakfast, and your assigned first-hour classroom. Once you get where you need to be, stay there. Don’t wander or move back and forth through the hallways.
You should not be in another teacher’s classroom unless you’re there for tutoring or a sponsored meeting.
Breakfast Boundaries
HS students must finish breakfast by 8:00 a.m. After that, throw away any remaining food and any drinks without screw-on or spill-proof lids.
Bathroom Buddies
Use the restroom between classes whenever possible. If you need to leave class, ask permission and leave your phone with your teacher. Only one student may be out of the classroom at a time, so wait until that student returns before asking to leave.
If you need to see the nurse, your teacher must call first.
Mixed Company
JH and HS students need to stay in their respective areas before school, including at breakfast. Please don’t gather together in the hallways or visit each other’s classrooms.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our school day running smoothly. We expect each of you to follow these expectations and respond respectfully when staff redirect you.
Let’s make each day a good one!
Ms. Drummond and J Clem
from J Clem's 10/14 email:
Good morning, HS Wildcat Staff and Students!
Yesterday, I sent a reminder that breakfast service in the HS ends at 8:00 a.m.
Beginning today, the kitchen will stop serving breakfast to HS students at 8:00 a.m.
Staff: Please do not send students to breakfast after the 7:54 a.m. tardy bell.
Students: If you plan to eat school breakfast (which is FREE!), please arrive early enough to get your breakfast before the 7:54 a.m. bell. If you have PE first hour, please eat your breakfast in the cafeteria.
Thank you for helping us keep our mornings running smoothly!
Have a great day!

Keep This in Mind for Home Games:
Safety First!
The Circle Drive is for bus drop offs and pick ups only.
After school, students not riding the bus will be directed to doors that do not exit to the Circle Drive.
Thank you for helping us keep our Wildcats safe!
Drop Off/Pick Up Locations
Please review the map above for this year’s student drop-off and pickup locations.
Families may use any of the three marked locations:
• Drop-Off/Pickup Site 1: Morgan Street/Breezeway
• Drop-Off/Pickup Site 2: Morgan Street/Early Childhood Center
• Drop-Off/Pickup Site 3: Elm Street Elementary Entrance
• HS Students may also enter the building through the South Doors.
The Circle Drive is reserved for school buses only. Please do not enter or use the Circle Drive when dropping off or picking up students.
Thank you to our parents and students for your cooperation as we make this shift. These changes will help keep our students safe during arrival and dismissal.
Wanna Work Out?
Starting next week, Mrs. Campbell will open the weight room Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30-4:30 for any HS students who would like to come in and work out.
You can contact Mrs. Campbell with any questions at ccampbell@slaterschools.net .
No Phone Zone
HS students received the following email on Monday:
Here's a reminder (from the SHS STUDENT WILDCAT ROAR) about the cell phone LAW and a quick clarification:
- Once a student has entered the building (even if it's before 7:30), they are not to be on their phone.
- Students should not access their phones at the end of the day until they have left the building following the final bell. This includes the hallways.
Look—but Don’t Touch
We’re working to rehang the class composite photos in the hallways. You can also find them on the touchscreen across from Ms. Mindy’s window.
As you admire those who walked these halls before you, please do not touch the composites or frames.
The cameras are always watching… and some say they aren’t the only ones. 👻
Did You Know...
...you can pay your lunch/fees/dues online?
Parents,

We’re excited to try out these new options and make things a little more convenient for our fans and families. As with any new adventure, there may be a few bumps along the way, so please bear with us as we learn and work through the process. We truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and support!
Go Wildcats!

Cake mix is currently available at C&R for $0.89 per box. Donations can be brought to school anytime between now and October 31st. Thank you for helping our chapter give back to the community.
FFA Dues – Due November 1st
A reminder that annual FFA dues of $20 are due by November 1st. Please make arrangements to have dues paid by this deadline.
Freshmen FFA Jackets
Freshmen students have the option to purchase an official FFA jacket for $60. I also have used jackets available for $30 for families who would prefer a more affordable option. I will be placing the jacket order this week, so please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to purchase a new or used jacket.
Thank you for your continued support of the Slater FFA program. I appreciate the involvement of our students and families and look forward to the opportunities we have ahead this school year.
