Koch's Corner
Dear Leeds Elementary Families and Friends,
As 2024 draws to a close and winter break approaches, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who makes Leeds Elementary School such an extraordinary place. Your dedication and partnership create an enriching and nurturing environment where our students can thrive and grow.
Parents and families, your role in our mission is invaluable. Thank you for entrusting us with your most precious gifts—your children. We are truly grateful for each and every one of them and the unique joy and energy they bring to our school community. This year, we have witnessed incredible growth and accomplishments among our students, and we are so proud of the enthusiasm they bring to learning each day.
As we embrace the spirit of the holiday season, we wish each of you moments of joy, connection, and the warmth that makes this time of year so meaningful. To the parents, families, and friends of the Leeds Elementary community, may you have a safe, peaceful, and joyous holiday season. We look forward to 2025 with excitement for the opportunities to continue learning, growing, and celebrating together.
Warm regards,
Mr. Koch and Mr. Schubert

Hello Future Stars Families!
This month, we had our second round of classroom lessons and learned about coping skills. Earlier in the year we talked about our brains (remember the Thoughtful Turtle and Protective Porcupine?), this lesson was an extension of that! We reviewed how our Turtle helps us make decisions and remain calm and how our Porcupine keeps us safe. The coping skills we practiced are things we can use when our Porcupine gets a little too worked up! We practiced skills like journaling, coloring, exercising, and using positive self-talk. Hopefully your student(s) can tell you all about the ones they practiced!
Looking forward to December, we are going to do some learning about Conflict Resolution. It’s so important that we know how to solve minor disagreements before they develop into huge problems! We will talk about the Tattle Snake and the Get Help Goat in Kindergarten through second grade and use our Conflict Resolution Pineapple in third and fourth grade. Fifth grade gets to try something new with me when we make Conflict Resolution Fortune Tellers (or cootie catchers if you are an elder millennial like me). Hopefully, before they leave for break they will be masters at solving conflicts (the power of positive thinking, right?)!
During this season of gratitude and thanks, I am always reminded of how lucky I am to work with such amazing students and their families. Thank you for supporting your children, my counseling program, and our school!
As always, thank you for sharing your kids with us! We have so much fun here at Leeds!

Things to Know
Winter Break Reminder
Winter break is quickly approaching! School will dismiss two hours early on Friday, December 20. School will not be in session from Monday, December 23 through Friday, January 3, resuming on Monday, January 6. Have a wonderful break!
Winter Weather Decisions
Parents and guardians have the right to decide to keep their child home on any day they feel it is unsafe for their student to be in school because of weather conditions. If you believe the weather provides a sincere reason why you may have to keep your student at home, or take your student home when classes are scheduled to continue, you as a parent or guardian will simply need to contact our school office to let us know.
