Happy New Year to the PJHS and PHS Choir Singers and Families! We have had a positive week back to school and it has been so nice to see everyone after the long break. All choirs are doing a "January Musicianship Re-Set" where we give extra attention to sight-reading, theory, and rehearsal skills. The PHS choir students have been given a daily self-assessment rubric of their rehearsal skills which they fill out at the end of each rehearsal.

Question: What do choir and hockey have to do with each other??.....

PIC and PJHS Choirs will be making a trip to the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL on Sunday, March 16. The choirs will be singing at the stadium with 20 other school choirs during one of the intermissions of the 3:00 pm Chicago Wolves game that afternoon.

We will have access to discounted rate tickets ($18.50) for any family and friends who wish to attend the game: people who purchase the discounted rate tickets will be seated in the same section as the choir (non-singer seats will be in the rows immediately in front of the choir). A permission slip will be sent home soon. Be sure to MARK YOUR/YOUR CHILD'S CALENDAR for March 16 -- this is going to be a really fun outing for the PIC and PJHS choirs!

After reviewing the schedule for the upcoming months, the music department identified some errors with the band dates previously set. The changes primarily affect the schedule in May. Below are the key updates:

1. PJHS Bands Solo and Ensemble Event: Originally scheduled for February 15, this event has been rescheduled to April 5 at Bradley Central Middle School. Further details will follow.

2. ILMEA Large Ensemble Festival for PHS band may be rescheduled to another date. More information will come out soon.

3. 5-12 Band Concert: The concert initially planned for May 13 was inadvertently omitted from the schedule. It has now been added.

4. Fine Arts Awards & Spaghetti Dinner: This event has been rescheduled to May 21. There will be no event on May 12.

We understand that these changes may cause confusion, so we have attached the updated band schedule for your reference. Students will also receive a printed version in the upcoming week.

Sectionals have been going great! Currently, we have just began looking at their new concert music and resetting their fundamentals.

A reminder that band calendar dates have been sent home and are posted below if you need a copy.

Anything with TBD means you will receive and update on that information as soon as I have it available.

In order to make sure that both band and choir performances run smoothly, we are asking families to fill out a conflict form (the button below) if a student is not able to be there. This is to be filled out at least 2 weeks in advance before the date of conflict. This form will be posted on the newsletter and shortly is available on both band and choir student's Google Classroom pages.

Performances are grades and the expectation is for you to be there. If you are unable to go to an event, there will be a makeup assignment that will need to be completed. Usually situations of work or family events do not qualify as reasons for not going. Once completing the form, please alert Mr. Kowalski or Ms. Marshall about the submission so we can review it.

All assignments can be found in multiple places including:

• Google Classroom (if it is an outside of class assignment)
• The calendar in the band room
