Capitol Hill Weekly Update
8/7/26
Message from the Principal
Welcome to the 2026–27 school year! I hope you and your family have had a wonderful summer filled with time to relax, explore, and make memories. We are excited to welcome our students back to Capitol Hill and are busy getting everything ready for another fantastic year of learning together.
If you've driven by the school this summer, you've probably seen trucks, equipment, and plenty of activity. Behind the scenes, we've been making improvements to our building, and I look forward to sharing more about those projects in next week's newsletter.
Beginning this week, you'll receive a Capitol Hill newsletter every Friday. It will include important dates, school updates, family events, celebrations, reminders, and other information to help keep you connected throughout the year.
Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If you have questions or need support during the school year, please don't hesitate to reach out. You can email me at farmenda@pps.net or call the school office, and we'll be happy to help.
I make it a priority to respond to emails within two working days. If you haven't heard back from me by then, please send your message again or give our office a call. Every once in a while technology gets in the way, and I'd much rather receive your email twice than miss it altogether.
Teachers return on August 20 and will take time to review the class lists they thoughtfully created at the end of last school year. Once that review is complete, class assignments will be shared with families on August 21.
We'll send more information about the first days of school, arrival and dismissal procedures, and everything you need to know as August 26 gets closer. In the meantime, we're looking forward to welcoming our students back and beginning another great year together!
In service to students,
Febe Armendariz
Principal

Community Cares Day — August 15, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
Help us get our schoolyard ready to welcome students back to class! Join us for Community Cares Day as we pick up litter, spread mulch, prune shrubs, pull weeds, and give our outdoor spaces some much-needed care.
Bring your gloves, shovels, gardening tools, weed whackers, tarps, brooms, leaf blowers—and plenty of enthusiasm! Come for the whole morning or whatever time you can give. Many hands make light work, and we’d love to see you there!
Welcome, Kindergarten Families
We’re excited to get to know your child and welcome your family to Capitol Hill! Please complete our Kindergarten Family Questionnaire (https://forms.gle/7EyXM4adq56xSEXd6) to tell us a little about your child—their strengths, interests, needs, and anything else that will help our kindergarten teachers create thoughtful class placements and prepare to welcome each student.
A few important dates:
🍧 Kindergarten Popsicle Social — August 18, 5:00–6:00 PM on the playground. Families who have completed the questionnaire will find out their child’s teacher at the social!
👋 Kindergarten Family 1-on-1 — August 26. Your homeroom teacher will send a sign-up.
🎒 Kindergarten Ramp-Up Days — August 27 & 28. Half the class attends for a full day each day: Group A on August 27 and Group B on August 28.
And if you’d like to volunteer this year, don’t forget to complete your PPS volunteer background check: https://www.pps.net/domain/66
We can’t wait to meet our newest Capitol Hill students and families!
