Hanover StreetSchool NewsletterApril 1, 2024

Happy April Fool's Day! Maybe the upcoming weather report is just a bad joke. In the meantime, the students have enjoyed the sunnier days.

The teachers put in a lot of extra time getting ready for conferences and it's been great to see so many parents in the building.

It's been awhile since I've updated everyone on the construction project. The classrooms and cafeteria are ready for inspections so we are right on schedule and there's even a chance that we'll be able to use the new spaces towards the end of the year. The lobby should have new floors, ceiling, paint, and lights by the end of next week.

Hopefully a bright new entranceway will greet everyone on April 15th,

Leah Wheelan, Principal

Eclipse Glasses

Thank you to the PTO for distributing glasses. The teachers will be sending them home with your child.

Eclipse Time:

On April 8, 2024 at 2:14 pm-ish, a partial solar eclipse will begin in our area. At 3:26 pm-ish, our area’s daytime sky will be at its darkest. This will last for about 3 minutes. The partial eclipse will last until 4:37 pm-ish.

Eclipse Safety:

  • The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses”. Ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the Sun; they transmit far more sunlight than is safe for our eyes.
  • Read and follow the instructions printed on your eclipse glasses.
  • Always supervise children using the eclipse glasses.
  • If you normally wear eyeglasses, keep them on. Put your eclipse glasses on over them.
  • Stand still and cover your eyes with your eclipse glasses before looking up at the bright Sun. After looking at the Sun, turn away and remove your filter — do not remove it while looking at the Sun.
  • Do not look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun through an unfiltered camera, telescope, binoculars, or other optical device.
  • Similarly, do not look at the Sun through an unfiltered camera, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while using your eclipse glasses in front of your eyes — the concentrated solar rays could damage the filter and enter your eyes, causing serious injury.

Upper Valley Music Performance

The students enjoyed hearing parts of Vivaldi's Four Seasons in our gym last Friday. It was a wonderful performance by Upper Valley students.

Safety Reminder

In reviewing video recordings of our lobby vestibule, I noticed that on occasion people leaving the school hold the inner lobby doors open for people entering. While polite, this does pose a security risk so please do not let anyone enter without being buzzed in.
