PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Mentors Business Internship Students

On Tuesday, April 28, students from the Business Internship class met with their eMentors from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) at their Minneapolis office. In the weeks leading up to the visit, students had already begun building professional relationships with their mentors through email, setting the stage for a meaningful in-person experience.

The day began with lunch and a panel featuring PwC professionals, where students gained insight into a variety of career paths and experiences within the company. Following the panel, students toured the office, including the rooftop balconies, giving them a firsthand look at the work environment.

Senior Joana Gboeah shared that one of the most impactful parts of the experience was simply making that in-person connection. She reflected that meeting her mentor allowed her to better understand the importance of taking school seriously, building strong connections, and finding ways to balance work with time to reset and recharge.

This marks the second year the Business Internship program has partnered with PwC. After a strong experience with last year’s class, PwC requested to continue the partnership. Joana noted that what stood out to her was the company culture; how employees stay connected in a way that is both friendly and professional, while also maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

She also highlighted the wide range of opportunities within the company. While PwC is known as a major accounting firm, Joana was intrigued by the variety of roles available, including data analytics, engineering, and other specialized areas. That diversity helped her begin thinking more seriously about her own future, especially as she considers pursuing a degree in business data analytics and possibly management.

Joana emphasized that when she looks at a future career, she values stability, strong connections, and a company’s work ethic, along with how it supports life outside of work. Through this experience, she began to see PwC as a place that aligns with those priorities and a potential starting point for her career.

The Blaine Business Internship program has partnered with BestPrep and its eMentors program for over 20 years. Research shows that mentoring, even through email, can have a powerful impact on students’ lives. During the eight-week program, students build relationships with professionals who serve as role models, helping to increase academic motivation, strengthen communication skills, expand career awareness, and build confidence.

BPA Students Speak at Blaine Business Council Meeting

On Thursday, April 30, seniors Ericka Miller and Nolawi Gibe represented Blaine BPA as guest speakers at the Q2 Blaine Business Council meeting held at TPC. The two students shared insights on their partnership with MetroNorth Chamber President Lori Higgins and highlighted the impact of Business Professionals of America on student growth and development. The valuable opportunity as Minnesota BPA officers - Ericka serving as State President and Noland as Vice President of Communications - connected them with local business leaders, representing their organization at a high level, and further strengthened community partnerships.

During the meeting, Ericka and Nolawi spoke about what BPA is and how it provides students with opportunities to build leadership skills, gain real-world experience, and prepare for future careers. They emphasized how partnerships with professionals, like their work with the MetroNorth Chamber, help connect classroom learning to real business experiences.

The event also featured Lisa Guetzkow, Director of the Anoka County Job Training Center, who introduced her vision for the organization and shared current workforce trends affecting local employers. Attendees also heard from Robert Lane, CEO of Achieve Services, as part of the business spotlight.

The Blaine Business Council meeting provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect with local business leaders, learn about initiatives within the city and school district, and experience professional networking in action.

What’s especially exciting is that students not only discover careers they’re passionate about, but sometimes realize a certain path isn’t for them, and that’s just as important. That’s the heart of career exploration: learning, growing, and finding your fit. -Holly Boisjolie, BPA Advisor.
