Principal's Weekly Update #34

Dear Wales Families,

The PTO is seeking 4 pop-up tents to borrow for our field day. If you are able to volunteer to bring a pop-up tent, please let Mrs. Moran know and we will share it with the PTO. Otherwise, all volunteer positions are filled for the field day. Only those who are on the list with the PTO as a volunteer may attend our field day. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Next week, we will celebrate Flag Day, Moving Up Days, and our annual Field Day event. This week will be full of fun activities. Please remember to apply sunblock to your child before they come to school on Thursday, as most of the day will be spent outdoors. Reminder to our parents attending our Moving Up Days that the doors will not open until 30 minutes prior to the event (6/16 at 1pm doors will open).

Monday is our annual Flag Day celebration. If the weather is agreeable we will hold our ceremony at the flag pole in front of the school at 9:30AM. Parents are welcome to attend. In the event the weather is inclement, we will move into the gym for our ceremony and we will not be able to accommodate guests due to our restricted space.

A reminder to all parents that cell phones and all other cell devices are not permitted to be used during the school day. Parents are highly encouraged not to send their child in with these devices. This includes smart watches with texting and internet accessibility. If your child has a watch or device that they bring/wear to school, please be sure it's turned off during the day or in airplane mode.

Your child brought home a bookmark this week with information about a summer reading challenge. Assemblyman David DiPietro is holding his Annual Summer Reading Challenge to help encourage good reading habits and continuing learning this summer and beyond! This year's theme is "Unearth a Story". This program is in conjunction with the New York State Assembly and Summer Reading at New York Libraries. All students in grades (K-5) living in the 147th Assembly District during the 2025-2026 school year are eligible. Students who pledge and complete reading for at least 15 minutes each day for at least 40 days during the months of July and August will be presented a New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate. A note will be coming home early next week from the II music department regarding chorus next year. The music department is requesting that you send the permission slip back regardless of whether your child wants to take chorus or not. Permission slips are due no later than June 22nd.
