Working together; Succeeding Together
Land Aknowledgement
As Treaty People, we honour the lands of Treaties 4, 5, and 6, the traditional territories of the Cree, Dene, Nakota, Dakota, Saulteaux, and Ojibway peoples, and the homeland of the Métis.
With harvest complete and winter approaching, we give thanks for the land’s abundance and the food that will sustain our communities through the colder months. As the fields enter a season of rest, we are reminded of our responsibility to care for the soil, water, and living things that make these gifts possible.
This land has offered generations of families safety, opportunity, and belonging. We recognize that these opportunities have not been shared equally, and we acknowledge the lasting harms of colonialism and residential schools on Indigenous peoples, families, and communities.
As the days grow shorter and we gather for warmth, learning, and connection, we commit to listening to Indigenous voices, deepening our understanding of our shared history, and putting reconciliation into practice through our words and actions. May this season remind us to care for one another, share what we have, and work toward a future in which everyone belongs.
Construction Class
Our construction 20/30 class has been very busy building bunkhouses and outhouses for the Porcupine Hills Provincial Park. Stay tuned for the finished products.
History 30 - History Comes Alive
Earlier this year, the history 30 class travelled to our local museum, the Prairie River Museum, and to an old townsite near Mistatim. They learned a lot about local history and even did some metal detecting to find some historical artifacts. Mr. Riley's history class, lets the students hear it from the people who loved it, bringing it to life. Thank you to the Porcupine Plain Museum and the Prairie River Museum for giving our students tours.
Agriculture Project Phase 1 Nearly Complete
The foyer gardens came in last week. Finn, Mark, and Fred got the set up and filled with water. Mrs. Newberry and the boys will plant this week. We are excited to grow our own produce for Bear Bites.
Thank Yous
We would like to thank Slobodian Pharmacy for once again sponsoring our fresh fruit program. This is a very worthwhile program that provides our kiddos with fresh apples, oranges, and bananas. This program would not be possible without the support of John, Tracy, and Nathan.
We would like to thank the Kelvington 4-H Club for their generous support of our snack program.
Pick Up Expectations
Gym Supervision
The gym is one of the high risk areas of the school. For this reason, supervision is required at all times. At no time are students permitted to be in the gym before or after school without explicit permission from a staff member.
Sr. Girls Volleyball
Tournament Team
The tournament team travelled to Foam Lake and Wynyard on the weekend. They had a very successful round robin finishing second in their pool. They lost a tough battle to Canora . Then they were off to Wynyard for the semi finals. They went undefeated in the semis and faced Canora again in the finals. It was an amazing two sets, but the girls came up a little bit short, bringing home the silver. Lots of volleyball, many great battles.
League Team
The Sr. Girls League team travelled to Naicam over the weekend, where they played six games against some tough competition, and battled hard to win some of the sets. The girls showed a great effort with strong hits, impressive blocks, and smart ball placement.
They head to Hudson Bay on Tuesday for Pod Playoffs!
Jr. Girls Volleyball
Home tournament this weekend.
Sr. Boys Volleyball
The Sr. Boys were in tournament action in Tisdale this past weekend.
They played hard, winning a few sets in the round robin and taking Choiceland to a third set in the semi finals before falling to Nipawin in the bronze medal match. Great weekend of volleyball.
Cross Country Running
Another season has wrapped. Huge shout out to Mrs. Mielke for another amazing season. All of the athletes had a great season.
THE WAIT IS OVER!!!
Bear Bucks is Updated (Finally)
We have made some changes to help us streamline the system. We have consolidated all Bear Bucks accounts into family groups. Your new account number will be the first three letters of your last name followed by your phone number (i.e. Sam Jones Phone Number 555 1212 would be Jon1212). This was we do not have to update several accounts and do not have to update account numbers yearly.
I apologize for the delay, updating Bear Bucks is very time consuming. We have, hopefully built some things into the back end that will allow it to be less labor intensive. We appreciate you understanding.
If you feel that you total is not correct (especially if you added money, late last year), contact the school and we will make it right.
As always, we thank you for you continued support of our program.
