APRIL/MAY EVENTS 2023

Dear Parents and Students,

I thought that things would wind down a bit after UIL, but we are still rockin' and rollin' here in band land. Can you believe there are only SIX more weeks left of school?!?

I need to brag on our bands for a moment. Our MVMS Symphonic Band received a SUPERIOR rating at UIL for their concert performance, and our MVMS Honor Band received a SUPERIOR rating in both concert and sight-reading, earning them the prestigious UIL SWEEPSTAKES AWARD!

32 students attended the All-Region Band Clinic and Concert held at Davenport HS on March 28. The students were well-mannered throughout the day, and the concert was phenomenal. Comal ISD students dominated at this event! That says a lot about our students and our awesome teaching staff!

We had a successful beginner band trip to EVO Entertainment Center in Schertz. No, we did not plan on the movie having so many musical references, but it was super cool that it worked out that way! THANK YOU to all the parents that helped out! You were amazing in every way, and we could not have pulled off such an event without you!

SOLO AND ENSEMBLE CONTEST - APRIL 27

This contest is open to all band students in grades 6-8.

When: April 27, 2023

Time: During class

This is an individual competition and a chance for students to earn their own band award. Students that get a 1st division rating will receive a medal. Students that get a 2nd division rating will receive a ribbon. A donation of $5 per event is suggested. This helps offset costs of judges, music, and awards. Ask a friend, family member, teacher, neighbor, or coworker to sponsor you!

Hill Country Jazz Festival - APRIL 22

The MVMS Jazz Band will be performing at the Fredericksburg Hill Country Jazz Festival on April 22nd! The Band will be performing at 10:30am at Fredericksburg High School. After the performance, the band will be participating in instrument masterclasses and then will get to listen to the Air Force Band of the West group, VELOCITY, to close out the festival in the evening! A letter and itinerary will be sent out to jazz band parents once everything is finalized.

Attire: Black button-down shirt, black pants, black shoes, and a jazzy, snazzy colored tie/bowtie. Colorful socks also okay.

Fiesta TX - APRIL 15

Who: 7th and 8th grade Band, Orchestra, and Choir students

When: Saturday, April 15

HERE IS THE ITINERARY!

A mandatory chaperone meeting will be Wednesday, April 12 at 6:30 PM in the MVMS Band Hall or join us online via Zoom. Zoom link for chaperone meeting is in the itinerary.

WE WANT YOU TO BE IN BAND!

Do you know anyone currently in the 5th or 6th grade that would make an awesome band student? Send them our way!

We are holding Beginner Band Interviews and Instrument Trials at MVMS on Thursday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 18. Parents will need to sign up for a 20-minute time-slot on one of those days for their child to meet with the band directors.

Please SHARE THIS BEGINNER BAND INFO with any 5th or 6th grader you think would have a fun time in band!
