We are looking for volunteers to help with Vision and Hearing Screening on Monday, October 5. There are 2 shifts available. Shift 1 from 9:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m., or Shift 2 from 12:15 p.m.-3:40.p.m. If you are interested in volunteering for one or both shifts or have further questions, please email Jessica Dahlberg at jessica.dahlberg@moundsviewschools.org
Choir is now open for all 4th & 5th students
All 4th & 5th graders are invited to participate in the Island Lake choir. Mrs. Stromback, Island Lake music teacher, welcomes all interested students without an audition or prior choral experience to join. Instruction focuses on proper vocal technique and learning to sing harmony. Students will have the opportunity to learn about many different styles of music and performance techniques. There will be opportunities to perform with the choir later in the year.
Choir is FREE of charge and will meet on Monday mornings from 8:05-9:05 a.m. Choir will start on Monday, October 5, and will rehearse in the music room (Room 148). Depending on enrollment numbers, 4th graders may need to move to Wednesday mornings as was the case last year. This will not conflict with 4th grade orchestra and a final decision on the practice time and start date will be communicated to 4th grade families who sign up.
To join choir, please register below. Questions? Please contact Mrs. Stromback at amanda.stromback@mvpschools.org.
Lost & Found - New process and important updates!
Due to limited space, we will be donating unclaimed Lost & Found items once a month. Our next donation will take place on Friday, October 2.
If your child is missing any items, please have them check the Lost & Found or feel free to stop by during regular school hours. As a reminder, if your child’s belongings are labeled, we will do our best to return them to the right student.
Thank you for helping us keep our Lost & Found manageable and for giving these items a chance to find their way home.
Starlab is coming!
When your Island Laker visits science specialist from September 30 - October 23 they will have an opportunity to go into the Starlab! In the Starlab we will explore our sun, planets, stars, and constellations. We will also learn about how the movements of earth and other planets and moons affect what we see in the sky.
Starlab is an incredible piece of technology that was purchased with the support of the Mounds View Education Foundation for the whole district to use. For many kids, this is often a favorite elementary science memory.
A couple of reminders:
- Please make sure you are wearing socks on your science day.
- Self-control is required to stay in Starlab. Any reminders for students to control that excitement and show their B.E.S.T. in star lab are welcomed.
I am looking forward to an awesome year in Star Lab!
- Mr. Lundberg
Inclement weather during end-of-day dismissal
Thank you for your patience last Friday during the heavy rain at afternoon pickup. During inclement weather such as heavy rain and/or extreme cold temperatures, students will remain supervised indoors until conditions allow for safe dismissal. Please plan to arrive on time, follow staff directions carefully, and expect potentially longer wait times as we prioritize student safety.

Apply for Educational Benefits
All students are offered one breakfast and one lunch meal at no cost each day at school as part of the Minnesota Free School Meals Program. Although no application is required to receive this meal benefit, filling out the Application for Educational Benefits is still important and households need to apply for Educational Benefits each school year.
Families who qualify are eligible for many great benefits, such as reduced (or free) fees on sports and activities, college application fees, transportation, community programs and more. Watch the video below to learn more and apply at mvpschools.org/reducedfees.
New program puts local foods on school menus
This school year, the Nutrition Services Department is thrilled to highlight local Minnesota farmers and producers through its MN Thursdays program. Thursdays this fall will feature different local foods while connecting our schools with Minnesota farms and producers.
This week, students enjoyed locally grown pears from Orchards of Breezy Hill and Triple Berry Jonny Pops made with real fruits in Elk River, Minnesota. MN Thursdays are a fun way to highlight our Farm to School program, support the local economy and introduce students to fresh, seasonal food.
