Grace & Courtesy
Dear Dealey Families and Community,
This week, our campus is focusing on one of the most beautiful and timeless aspects of the Montessori approach: Grace & Courtesy.
“Grace and courtesy are among the first lessons in human relationships that we give to the child. These are, in their simplest form, the manners of everyday life.” – Dr. Maria Montessori
At Dealey, we believe that academics and character go hand in hand. Grace and courtesy lessons help our children practice kindness, patience, respect, and empathy — skills that build confidence and strengthen relationships both inside and outside the classroom.
💡 What Does Grace & Courtesy Look Like at Dealey?
-
Greeting teachers and peers with a smile or handshake
-
Saying “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me” throughout the day
-
Practicing conflict resolution through calm words instead of raised voices
-
Walking carefully in the hallways and respecting shared spaces
-
Offering help when someone is in need
These may seem like small moments, but together they create the peaceful and respectful environment where our Dragons thrive.
🏡 How Families Can Support at Home
-
Make space for warm greetings and farewells each day
-
Pause for eye contact during conversations
-
Practice polite table manners at dinner
-
Model calm words during disagreements
-
Celebrate acts of kindness your child shows at home
📣 You’re Invited: Montessori Night — Tuesday, 9/9/25 at 4:30 PM
Get ready for a hands-on evening of discovery!
-
Montessori Night is a progressive event where families move through each Montessori level, from PK4 all the way to Upper.
-
Parents will sit in the position of a student, learning just as their children do.
-
Teachers will guide you through interactive lessons and demonstrations, so you can experience Montessori materials and methods firsthand.
-
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how Montessori builds independence, critical thinking, and grace and courtesy from one level to the next.
-
Upon arrival, you’ll be directed to your learning adventure path.
-
PK4–5 students will enjoy free child care provided by our NJHS students, so families can fully engage in the evening.
This is a wonderful opportunity to see the Montessori journey in action, ask questions, and strengthen the home–school connection.
🎉 Celebrating Our Community
Thank you for modeling grace and courtesy at home. Your partnership helps us raise children who are not only intelligent and capable, but also compassionate leaders in our community.
With gratitude,
Love❤️ Principal Amber Garrett

Seeking Parent Garden Volunteers for PreK - 5th Grade Classrooms -
Parent Gardening Volunteers work with their child's PreK/K or Lower Elementary teacher to determine a mutually convenient time to take students out to the garden each week (or every other week) during school hours. The time commitment for the Parent Gardening Volunteers is typically 60 - 90 minutes per gardening session, and the role can be shared between several parents in one classroom. 4th and 5th Grade students may also participate in gardening if a parent volunteer is available and their teacher desires for them to participate in gardening. We are planning to begin gardening with the students the week of September 8. If you are interested in serving as a Gardening Volunteer or learning more about this volunteer role, please contact Andrea Montillo (andreamontillo@gmail.com).
