Happy Sunday!

Happy Sunday! It's been another great week in the Travis Choir Room with lots of progress made in each ensemble! Each week, I'll be sending out our weekly newsletter, the Tiger Choir Chronicles, sometime between Sunday and Monday. It will also be posted on the choir website under "Weekly Updates." Please be sure to read the full news update each week for reminders, upcoming events, and news. There is a lot of information in this week's newsletter so please be sure to read through everything that applies to your student.

"The Music Man" Field Trip THIS TUESDAY

For everyone who bought tickets, please continue reading. For those not participating and did not purchase tickets in advance, please skip to the next news item.

On THIS Tuesday, September 22, we will be taking over 50 students to Downtown Houston to see the Theatre Under the Stars' production of "The Music Man." For all those who turned in ticket money, please note the itinerary below:

5:30 pm: Report to THS Choir Room

5:45 pm: Depart for Hobby Center

7:30 pm: Showtime

11:00 pm (approx): Return to THS

Additionally, please also note that all participants including family members will travel together on the busses. The only exceptions that can be made are for families with limited mobility. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Be sure to eat dinner ahead of time. While there are some refreshments available at the theatre, school groups tend to cause lines to move slow, and prices are quite high. I would strongly encourage students to not partake of the snacks and refreshments unless necessary.

Dress code for the evening is business casual and enjoy the opportunity to dress up for a night at the theatre! Jeans, shorts, T-shirts, and workout clothes are not considered appropriate attire for a theatre performance.

Fall Concert

Our Fall Concert is FAST approaching on October 6 at 7 pm! Please ensure this date is on everyone's calendar!

We are currently finishing up dress fittings and alterations and will soon begin tuxedo fittings. For all students wearing a tuxedo, please note that students are responsible for providing their own dress black shoes, black socks that cover the ankle, and a plain white button-down dress shirt. Dress shirts should be solid white, and the collar should be a classic design with no buttons. Please see the guide below for the correct collar style and feel free to email me with any questions!

District Auditions Results

CONGRATULATIONS to the following students who have successfully advanced to the next round in the All-Sate Process! 27 out of the 52 students who auditioned advanced! This is most students we've had in the past 4 years and I'm so proud of the work ethic and level of preparation from all the students who auditioned!

I am SO proud of everyone who auditioned and look forward to their support of our advancing students to bring another All-State Singer to Travis High School!

Choir Fees Due October 1

As a gentle reminder, choir fees are due on October 1st. Students need to have either paid the full choir fee or paid at least $80 for "New to Choir" students, or $50 for returning choir students as a payment on the choir fee.

As always, if your family requires assistance, our Booster Club is here to support our students and is happy to help. Please send Mr. Miner an email if this applies to your family. Thank you!

Join the Booster Club! 🎵

The Travis Choir Booster Club supports high schooler's love for singing by providing opportunities for their parents and family members to further the choir's success.

The four members of the executive team take care of the governance so that Choir Booster Members can focus on fundraising, volunteer coordination, and events that enable the choir to be exciting and fun for the kids.

No special experience is required. Whether you're organized, creative, handy, good with numbers, enjoy planning events, love taking photos, have business connections, or simply want to help when needed, we'd love to learn more about you.

Please take a moment to complete our Volunteer Interest Form and tell us about your skills, interests, and availability. Every parent has something valuable to contribute, and every contribution helps our choir thrive!

Chorale Updates

Chorale is off to a great start! In addition to everything above, we discussed varsity expectations for these students. They have a much more demanding schedule compared to other classes with several that I'd like to highlight for Varsity Chorale parents:

  • Sectionals are offered for All-State preparation. Only advancing students need to worry about attending. As a reminder, sectionals are optional, but are the most efficient and best way to learn the music and prepare for each round.
  • Treble Singers: Mark Thursday, October 8 on your calendar as a day not to miss school! We will be traveling up to Texas A & M University for their annual Treble Choir Day! I'm so excited for this awesome day of learning and meeting other students from around the Houston area!

AAC Level-Down Forms

If your child is currently in the Choir AAC course and would like to level down, applications are now available from the counselor's office. Please have your child stop by to retrieve the packet and gather the requested signatures ASAP so that the counseling department can begin processing them. Weekly AAC recordings will soon begin on All State Music so we want to ensure the course code gets switched as soon as possible.

Presto Assistant

Thank you so everyone so far who has logged in to Presto to sign forms and pay fees. As a reminder, all fees and most forms this year will be done via the Presto Assistant website. To access the website, please CLICK HERE. A few points below:

  • If you are NEW to the THS Choir Program: You should have received several emails from Presto Assistant inviting you to finishing setting up your profile. I have already created a profile for every student and the first parent listed in Skyward. The email listed in Skyward is the email that should have received the Presto email. Please follow the directions to complete your profile set up in order to pay fees and sign required forms.
  • If you are a returning parent who does not remember your Presto login, please follow the directions on the website to reset your password to access your account.
  • If you have multiple students and both students do not appear in your parent account, please let me know so that I can ensure they are linked correctly.
  • Presto Assistant does not allow student profiles to pay choir fees or sign forms so please ensure you are able to access your account.

I appreciate those of you who have reached out with your issues as I am working closely with the Presto team to solve individual issues and inform them on how to better streamline the platform for parents.
