Dear Families,

"March is a month of transition—where the persistence of winter meets the promise of spring."

As we transition into this new month, our focus shifts toward growth. We are hoping to cultivate a love for reading during Read Across America Week, we are also cultivating character.

At Winchester Avenue, we believe that success isn't just about what a student knows, but how they treat others and how they bounce back from challenges. On March 13th, whether your student is heading to the Bouncy House or participating in our Reteach Session, our goal remains the same: to help every child grow into their best self.

We are so proud of the progress our students have made during this third nine-week period. Let’s make this "March Madness" a month of great stories, high jumps, and even higher expectations!

Reminders

  • This Week: Read Across America Week & Battle of the Books! 📖 Get ready for a week full of literary magic, themed dress-up days, and our friendly Battle of the Books competition. Let’s show our PK-2 students how much fun reading can be!

  • March 13th: 3rd Nine Weeks Reward – BOUNCY HOUSE DAY! 🏰 (flyer below)

To celebrate our hard-working students, we are bringing the inflatables to the school!

A Note on Eligibility: Participation in the Bouncy House event is a reward for maintaining positive behavior. To ensure a safe and fun environment, students who have received numerous Red Owls or Office Write-ups during this nine-week period will not attend the jump session. Instead, they will participate in a Positive Behavior Reteach Session to refocus on our school expectations and prepare for future success

Warmly,

Ms. Ballard

💡 Home Connection: Ask your student this week: "What is one way you showed a classmate kindness today?" or "What book are you most excited about for Battle of the Books?" Keeping these conversations going at home helps reinforce the positive behavior we celebrate at school!

Snow Days vs. Remote Learning Snow Days vs. Remote Learning

In the event of inclement weather, and BCS schools are closed, or in the event that school is unable to open for any reason, we will follow the schedule listed below:

  • Snow Days #1-5: Traditional Snow Days
  • Snow Days # 6-10: Remote Learning Days

As of January 30, BCS has used all 5 traditional snow days. Any future inclement weather days will be Remote Learning Days following the schedule below.

High Impact Instructional Practices focus on ensuring all instruction is purposeful, rigorous, and student-centered. Lessons are aligned to grade-level standards and include clear, visible objectives that identify both what students must know and how they will apply that knowledge. Instruction intentionally builds academic vocabulary through curriculum-based opportunities for exploration and understanding.Teachers support students in moving from teacher-led instruction to independent learning through inquiry and gradual release. Finally, students are provided opportunities to integrate learning and produce original work by synthesizing information from multiple sources—building purpose, power, and practice in every classroom.
