Dear Birmingham Parents and Guardians,

Our students just finished state testing and have moved on to College Board Advanced Placement exams for all grades. Incredibly we have over 500 students in AP math classes, more than any other subject area and expect to have even more next school year as our students have embraced the challenge and committed themselves to doing college level work. Some preliminary college acceptance data has come in giving us more reasons to be proud of our students. 19 students were admitted to UCLA with another 20 to UC Berkeley, and 56 to UC San Diego. We don't have all the data back yet, but we know that some students have been admitted to other excellent universities around the country like Stanford, Cornell, Vanderbilt, Duke, and Howard. It's also no small feet that we have over 60% of our senior class admitted to CSUN, one of the largest numbers of any high school in the Los Angeles.

It's incredible that we only have 4 weeks left in the 2024-2025 school year. I'm so proud of the multitude of students that have worked diligently, managed school, work, sports, and clubs in their effort to become college and career ready. So many have had a positive and productive year. For those still struggling, we'll continue to look for opportunities to engage and connect them to Birmingham, to increase their motivation, and to get them back on track. We will have both summer intervention and enrichment programs for students in our belief that learning shouldn't stop during the summer.

For those that have completed our LCAP Survey and/or the single question Possip Pulse Checks, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your feedback and input are critical to our school. I want to hear from all of our stakeholders to assess what is going well and where we need to make adjustments to push forward in our daily effort to be even better tomorrow than we are today.

We do this work with passion and love and are grateful for your partnership. Thank you so much for believing in Birmingham and trusting us with your students.

Sincerely,

Principal Bennett

Hello BCCHS Community,

As the school year wraps up, I want to take a moment to say thank you. Since joining a few months ago, I’ve taken time to understand the unique strengths and needs of our school — and in that process, I’ve come to truly appreciate what makes this community so special. I’m excited to take everything I’ve learned and put it into action as we move into the new school year.

Before we say goodbye for the summer, we have one more special event:

The 4th annual BCCHS Wellness Fair!

This is more than just a fair, it's a celebration of health, community, and support!

We'll have wellness resources, performances, giveaways, and hands-on activities for all ages. Whether you're looking for mental health resources, community services, or just a joyful way to wrap up the year, the Wellness Fair is for YOU.

Bring your family, bring your friends and let's finish the year together in a positive and uplifting way!

Looking Ahead - This year has reminded me how much power there is in collaboration. I’m truly excited for what’s ahead in the 2025–2026 school year, new partnerships, more student voice opportunities, and continued support for the whole child and their families. We’re just getting started!

Wishing you a safe, restful, and joyful summer.

As we approach the last month of the school year, we have only 25 instructional days left in May and June. It's essential to finish the school year strong by fostering healthy habits that will carry over into real life.

The Importance of Attendance

Regular attendance is vital, especially during this crucial time when final exams and grades are on the horizon. Every day in the classroom contributes to your child's success, providing them with the knowledge and skills they need to excel on their finals.

Being present not only helps students grasp key concepts but also allows them to participate in valuable discussions and collaborative learning experiences. Missing even a single day can lead to gaps in understanding, making it more challenging to prepare for exams.

Tips to Encourage Attendance and Study Habits

  1. Set a Routine: Establish a consistent daily schedule that includes time for homework, study, and relaxation. A regular routine helps students manage their time effectively.

  2. Create a Study Space: Designate a quiet, organized area at home for studying. A dedicated space can improve focus and productivity.

  3. Break Down Study Material: Encourage students to break their study material into smaller, manageable sections. This makes studying less overwhelming and more achievable.

  4. Use Positive Reinforcement: Celebrate attendance and study achievements with rewards, whether it’s a fun outing, a special treat, or just verbal praise.

  5. Stay Engaged: Discuss the importance of finals and how they impact future opportunities. Engaging in conversations about their goals can motivate students to attend and study.

  6. Encourage Peer Study Groups: Suggest students form study groups with classmates. Collaborative learning can enhance understanding and make studying more enjoyable.

  7. Monitor Progress: Help students track their study progress and set specific goals for each subject. This accountability can boost motivation.

We encourage all families to prioritize consistent attendance during these final weeks. Together, we can ensure our students finish strong and achieve the best possible outcomes for their academic year. Let's make these last instructional days count!
