VIP is the way to be!

Each month we are recognizing students for SOAR behavior AND perfect attendance. Classroom teachers will submit one student name to Ms. Ballard. These students are our VIP Owls. They will receive a green VIP owl and their name will be enter at the end of the school year to win a bike.

Title I Tip Title I Tip

Keep plenty of reading materials in your home:

books, magazines, newspapers, and comic books. Children enjoy having a variety of reading materials.

Working on reading comprehension...

Read and reread a piece- Try using shorter articles- read them one day for interesting facts, a second day for good word choice, and a third day for comprehension. By the third day, the big/new words are familiar and one can really understand what is being said. That spacing with time in between is important for retrieval. Trying reading and rereading in various ways- listen to them being read aloud, share the reading with a friend, read them aloud, read them to yourself.

Read Aloud Program

We have a read aloud program here at Winchester Avenue. Please email Mrs. Elgin, Library Media Specialist, at meranda.elgin@k12.wv.us with any questions or concerns about becoming a volunteer classroom reader this school year.

Click below to complete an orientation to become a reader. Join us August 27th for a 1-hour, 15-minute virtual orientation to learn everything you need to know to be a successful volunteer classroom reader this school year!

Walkers

We understand that older siblings may need to walk our kiddos home. Please be sure your child's teacher is aware of this arrangement. We have a new form to be completed by parents/guardians of students that are walked home by siblings that are under 18 years of age. Once the teacher is made aware, we will send home the form.
