Good Bye October, Hello November!
However, being counted present is not the same as completing assignments and keeping grades up. At-Home Learning students should be checking in to every class on Schoology, engaging with the lessons, and completing assignments, quizzes, and projects. For tips or tutorials on how to help support your child through their schoology journey, we invite you to view the videos posted here.
The weather is starting to feel like fall and it is more important than ever to stay vigilant and continue practicing healthy hygiene habits to stay healthy! Fortunately, here in AISD, we continue to see very few positive cases. We are aiming to keep this number low. Please reference the COVID-19 dashboard for an overview of the reported positive cases by school. Our protocols follow the Texas Education Agency’s reporting structure, which communicates cases Monday through Saturday and considers a case active for 10 days.
Our district carefully monitors emerging guidance from the CDC as new details become available. As a reminder, in the event of a positive COVID-19 case, each campus/department will follow the Three Cs:
Contain (student/staff will wait for departure in the wellness room on each campus)
Contact (all those who have been in close contact with the individual are notified)
Communicate (share information about confirmed cases with our community)
As we learn of new COVID-19 cases, we follow all of our cleaning and safety protocols and review each case to determine what steps need to be taken to ensure the safety of students and staff.
With that being said, we have a lot of fun and exciting things coming to Mead's families and staff members! Try out for Basketball! Join the Grow-Together Gardening Club! Participate in our Walking Challenge! Read below for more details on our November activities.

Mead's Grow Together Garden Club
Grow seasonal herbs and vegetables at home and then transplant them into the Mead Middle School garden later this year! We'll provide everything you need. This opportunity is for all Mead students and families, 6-8 grade, in-person or online; register here for a Grow Kit or scan the QR code above!
Each Grow Kit includes a ten gallon grow bag, soil, ‘decorate your own’ plant labels, one plant start (kale or swiss chard), seeds (carrots, radishes, nasturtiums), Microlife fertilizer and detailed instructions for young gardeners and family helpers to follow. After you transfer your seedling into the school garden, the Grow Kit is yours to keep and you can keep using it to grow fresh vegetables at home.
Urban Harvest, a local non-profit with a community gardening mission, has donated 35 Grow Kits to Mead Middle School. Participating students are welcome to send pictures of their Grow-Kit outcomes to meagan@urbanharvest.org and hlking2@aldineisd.org for possible inclusion in Urban Harvest social media. Urban Harvest will circulate a participant survey later this year to see how well Grow Kits worked for Houston students and families. We will have a Grow Kit wait list in case we have more than 35 interested families.
Teachers/staff are welcome to reserve a Grow-Kit as well!
You and your guardian will be contacted to pick up materials. The grow-together garden club will meet on google meets on Wednesdays at 6:00pm using the code growtogether

November Walking Challenge
Families and staff are invited to join our November Walking Challenge! Walks, hikes, runs, and wheelchair activities will count towards this challenge. Register online at count.it and use your smart phone or watch to automatically track or sync your daily steps. You may also download the count.it app for Apple or scan the QR code in the flyer above.
We're kicking this thing off on November 1st and the challenge will run until November 30th. We've created rewards for averaging 8,000+ steps per week (80+ points). We'll announce winners for most steps total at the end of the challenge so get registered and get walking!
If you need help registering or connecting your device, contact Ms. King at hlking2@aldineisd.org
