Magic Genies
Have you ever day dreamed about finding a magic lamp? You notice the glamor of gold. You reach down dusting off the antique treasure only to realize that as you rub the dust away a magic genie appears. The genie is ready to grant you 3 wishes! Everyone knows the first wish should be to wish for more wishes! Oooh the possibilies are endless! Who wouldn't want that day dream to come true?! If you had the chance, would you give that magic genie filled lamp to your child? Of course you would! In fact, you already have! You are giving them an education!
We are about to start the 2025 - 2026 school year! At Summit, our focus is helping children uncover their dreams, their talents, their passions and to give them the tools, stamina, and drive to reach their full potential! Each day greets us with the opportunity to be better than we were the day before because we are constantly learning, growing, and evolving! Our children are doing the same thing and we are committed to being partners on this amazing journey!
As our children discover who they are and all they are capable of, the doors of opportunity that are open to them, are endless! No matter their hopes, dreams, and desires, the sky is the limit when we give them the education they desire!
Together, we are going to give our children the ability to make their endless wishes come true! Welcome to Summit for the 2025 - 2026 school year where dreams come true and we know that everything is possible!

Family Handbook
I want to thank our School Accountability Committee members for taking time throughout the 2024-2025 school year to go through the school handbook and provide input! It was a collaborative effort to provide our families with a quick reference for school details and information! Please take some time to look through the handbook and familiarize yourself with our school practices! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any comments or questions! We are here to be your partner in learning!
Grade Level Links
Last school year we tried something new! We had a parent volunteer connected to each grade level to help link parents to the classroom and to each other. A few things that have come about from this are:
- Royal tea party
- Flap jacks for lumber jacks
- Parents sharing careers
- Fun crafts
- Engaging science activities
- Demonstration on how to care for your car
- Special field trip to bait big horn sheep
- So much more!
As we step into this school year, I want to see this grow! The intention is to connect you to the classroom, connect students with positive role models, and connect parents with each other! All grade levels (except 1st) have at least one parent willing to be the grade level link! I would LOVE to have 2 parents per grade level if possible! If you are interested in helping, please let me know!
In order to build our community, I am asking that families click the link below and share an email address. This will allow you as parents to communicate and connect with each other. If raising a child takes a village, let's create a village to support each other!
Learning and Growing Together
I would love to continue learning and growing together as the adults in our children's lives! Do you want to learn and grow with me? I am seeking feedback so I can provide the most fruitful opportunities! I will not claim to be an expert in any area, but I believe that the more we connect and explore together, the stronger we will be in all aspects of our knowledge, skills, and practices!
Please complete the survey below to help me develop the best approach!
Supply List
Click on the link below for the 2025-2026 School Year Supply List! You may notice that there are baby wipes listed. This is a switch from Clorox/Lysol wipes. We have appropriate cleansers and sanitizers in the classrooms and wipes are only needed to clear off surfaces. A few grade levels have requested a few Clorox wipes for the teacher's use.
If you have any trouble gathering materials or supplies, please do not stress! We are here to help! Reach out to me at krexford@wpsdk12.org and we will make sure our children have what they need!
Kickin' Off Kinder - Saturday August 16
We are inviting our kindergarten families to join us on the Summit playground on Saturday August 16th between 11:00 - 1:00! Meet the kindergarten teachers, interventionists, academic coach, and myself (the princpal)! We will have hotdogs and chips for you to munch on while you build your school community! We will be sharing resources to help start your child off on the right foot for their education journey!
Please click the button below and let us know if you can come! See you there!
Important Health Information
The health staff is hoping you all had a safe, healthy and fun summer and is looking forward to welcoming back our students and their families. We want to share some quick reminders as the school year begins.
Immunizations: Thank you in advance for sharing any updated immunization records with us. As a reminder, we have school-required vaccines for preschool entry, kindergarten entry and 6th grade entry (Tdap). If you have any questions about vaccine requirements, please feel free to reach out to the health office. You can also view the school-required immunizations on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment,CDPHE, website. If you wish to complete a non-medical exemption, you can visit the following website to complete the module and receive the certificate: CDPHE Exemptions to School-Required Vaccines. Please email or send the certificate to school once complete. CDPHE updated the module and certificate over the summer so it will look different than it has in the past. As a reminder ALL non-medical exemptions expire on June 30th each year. The exception is if you completed an exemption during our registration period, in which case they are honored for the school year reflected in the registration and will expire the following June 30th.
Illnesses: We want to keep our school healthy and thriving, therefore, we ask that if your student has any of the following symptoms they remain at home: fever, diarrhea and/or vomiting. We ask that you please wait 24 hours for those symptoms to subside (without the use of medication) before returning your student to school. If you have any questions about any other symptoms or health concerns, please feel free to call your school nurse directly. When you call the office to report an absence, it is helpful if we can know what type of illness or symptoms your student is experiencing. We appreciate your willingness to share that information so we can track trends and help protect our vulnerable students. If a student becomes ill at school, we will call parents for an immediate pick up. Thank you for your assistance and partnership keeping our students, staff, parents and visitors healthy.

Calling for Volunteers - Summit Studio
At Summit, we offer an additional opportunity once a week for students to explore areas of interest and passion! This time in our schedule is called Summit Studio! A few different classes we have offered are: No Cook Cooking, Yoga Story Telling, Paper Airplane Design, Designing and Building Birdhouses, Legos and Construction, and gardening. The sky is the limit on what we can offer our students! Dream big!
The commitment to work with a group of students would be for 1 day a week from 2:05 - 2:50 for 1 semester. There are about 14 classes per semester for each grade level. Grade levels meet on the following days:
Monday - 2nd and 3rd Graders
Tuesday - 1st Graders
Thursday - Kindergarten
Friday - 4th and 5th Graders
If you are interested in providing students with the opportunity to learn something new, please e-mail me at krexford@wpsdk12.org.

Champions is a wonderful partner in providing meaningful care so our children start and end their school day on a positive note! They even offer care during breaks and long weekends! Attendance Matters
There are policies in place! There are procedures we follow! We have flowcarts and checklists! And yet it really is simple...WE WANT CHILDREN HERE! There are only 163 days in our school calendar and we are committed to making each day meaningful and fruitful! The best school day is the one you're a part of! We can make up work and redo tests, but we can't recreate the authetic experience each day brings!
I know that things happen! Children get sick! Families need to make plans! Obstacles get in the way! Please know that families will always have my support when it comes to meeting your needs! Coupled with that, I am asking for your commitment to school! Avoid appointments that pull your children from the classroom! Re-route plans that take children unnecessarily away! If you find a hurdle that is too big to overcome alone, reach out! Let's find a way together!
Every day is opportunity to learn and grow! Let's give our children the opportunities they deserve!
Picture Perfect Eagles
In future newsletters, I would like to feature our fabulous Eagles out and about soaring high! If you have a picture of your child and/or family in Summit gear send it my way! Please include your name and location! E-mail photos and information to me at krexford@wpsdk12.org.
I can't wait to see where all of our Eagles are soaring and sharing their Summit pride!
Capturing Kids' Hearts - TEAMWORK
Each month we will focus on character traits in our morning meetings, our weekly lessons with our counselor and woven within our school day! As we start the year in August and September, Summit's focus will be TEAMWORK!
"None of us is as smart as all of us." – Ken Blanchard
As we step into the year we make a conscience effort to develop our work as a team and school community! Thank you for being on our team as we help our children go as far as they can!
