Mr Young's Reflection of the Week
It has been another busy couple of weeks at OAE. In this newsletter we hear from a number of students who have taken part in some wonderful opportunities. I took a group of students to see the Met Police and the European base for WWE where we learnt about a diverse range of career pathways from property management, the Police and opportunities in the entertainment industry. Sumeyye is writing about her experience visiting LSE and The Inner Temple as part of the Sutton Trust Programme. Tatiana went even further afield attending a Cadet Naval Aviation Course in Cornwall while our Performing Arts students have been active in the local community. Year 11 completed their 'OAE Sixth Form Taster Day' and took part in their Sixth Form interviews, to secure a place at OAE in September 2025. We have some absolutely amazing students and it is wonderful to be able to celebrate their achievements.

Students point of view
Arezoo is a Year 13 student who is looking forward to studying law at university this autumn. The university application process is one many find challenging but Arezoo, “found the UCAS application process to be quite straightforward, particularly with the support of Mr Young."
"Mr Young assisted us throughout with weekly sessions to ensure we completed everything accurately. In July of year 12, we were given the chance to undertake a week of work experience, which we could include in our personal statements. I had the opportunity to visit several universities, both in London and beyond, which I believe is essential when deciding where I will spend the next three to four years of my life. Additionally, we attended a university and apprenticeship fair at Tottenham Stadium, where we were able to engage with universities and industry professionals regarding our next steps and study options.
This experience sparked my interest in apprenticeships, so I have applied for both university and apprenticeship opportunities, giving me the flexibility to choose from various paths. The application process involved writing a personal statement, limited to 4,000 characters, outlining my motivations for pursuing a specific course which in my case was law. After selecting five universities, I received assistance from Mr Young to check and submit my application and it took about a week or two for all my offers to come through.”
Our Amazing Students
After achieving some incredible GCSE grades, Sumeyye decided to stay with us to continue her studies in Sixth Form. "Continuing my journey at Oasis Academy Enfield was an easy choice for me."
"The school undoubtedly provides students with the opportunity to succeed in their education by giving students like myself, insight into programs like The Sutton Trust Programme. The programme provides students with access to great opportunities and in doing so increases their chance of being offered a place at a Russell Group University."
"Despite being super competitive, Ms Amdur supported me in my application, and I was really pleased to get accepted. So far, my experience has been extremely insightful and educational. We recently visited LSE and were given a tour of The Inner Temple, a legal reference library dating back to 1506."
"Being part of this programme has made me very grateful that the school supports us with applying to such beneficial opportunities which can have such a big impact on our future."
Essential Reads
Our subject specialists have identified their ‘Essential Reads’. This week it is my choice and a book I read as a Sixth Form student, after my history teacher recommended it to me. For those with a love of history it is a wonderful account of the Normandy invasion and it started me on a lifetime interest in the campaign which became the topic for my degree dissertation and I was able to follow it up with a visit to the invasion beaches in Normandy! Give it a read!
The famous D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 marked the beginning of Operation Overlord, the battle for the liberation of Europe. Max Hastings’ acclaimed account overturns many traditional legends in this memorable study. Drawing together the eyewitness accounts of survivors from both sides, plus a wealth of previously untapped sources and documents, Overlord provides a brilliant, controversial perspective on the devastating battle for Normandy.
Our Performance Artists!
Our amazing ambassadors for OAE performed their rendition of Hamilton outside the foyer area at the Dougdale Theatre in Enfield. They initially presumed they would perform to passers-by, but a group of young actors, directors, and producers for the evening event came out to watch. They were blown away and Ozioma Ihesiene, a young actor and film maker, who has invited them to come back to work on a piece with her.
They have also performed at two local care homes, a local primary school and the Arcola Theatre in Hackney as part of their BTEC Assessment on "The life of a Performer."
Year 13's Community Theatre
The year 13's, as part of their BTEC coursework are exploring community theatre, visited Springfield and Azalea Court Nursing Homes, to perform a very moving physical theatre piece on the play Othello. After their performance students then spent time talking to the residents about the piece and asked for a constructive critique of their work.
Our students gave a very moving performance, but perhaps what was more moving was the connections made between the generations as they talked not only about the performance, but their lives as well. The staff were equally moved and asked us to come back again.
Year 12 Psychology Students Explore Attachment in a Unique Way
Our Year 12 Psychology students recently took part in an exciting hands-on project to deepen their understanding of attachment. As part of their studies, they became ‘parents’ for the week—caring for eggs as if they were real infants!
Through this engaging activity, students explored key attachment behaviours such as reciprocity and interactional synchrony, as well as the stages of attachment. They fully immersed themselves in the experience, incorporating their eggs into daily life—watching TV, revising, and even taking photos with friends and staff.
The project concluded with insightful presentations, where students reflected on their experiences and linked them to psychological theories. Their enthusiasm and commitment were truly impressive—well done to all involved!
Cadet Naval Aviation by Tatiana L
Earlier this month, I was given a week off of school to go to Cornwall and attend a Cadet Naval Aviation course. I have been a member of the Cadets for a number of years and became aware of an opportunity to apply for the course. I would like to join the Royal Navy after sixth form as an air traffic controller and the week gave me a great opportunity to gain a real understanding of what a career in the Fleet Air Arm would look like.
To get onto the course, I had to write a 500-word personal statement which was successfully chosen against over 300 other applicants. When I was there, I was able to learn about a range of topics such as: engineering, flight principles, communications, air law, navigation, and meteorology. I was also able to visit the 814 “Flying Tigers” squadron to see their MK III helicopters which was my favourite part of the course. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet 29 other people from all over the country with similar interests with me and this course has confirmed in me my desire to pursue a career in the Royal Navy.

Careers News
This week I took a group of year 12 economics and business students to an industrial estate off the A10. It may not sound like the most inspiring of trips but our visit to ‘Great Cambridge Industrial Estate’ taught us that sometimes looks can be deceiving!
The visit formed part of SEGRO’s West London Community Investment Plan, which is committed to creating opportunities for young people in the area. We have been working with Spark!, an organisation that works with young people to develop the skills, knowledge and experience to successfully make the transition into employment and higher education. Last year, a number of our students secured invaluable work experience in London’s financial district.
Part of the process of applying for these opportunities was taking part in our visit to Great Cambridge Industrial Estate to see how SEGRO, a Real Estate Investment Trust, manage their properties and visit two of their clients. We first had a visit to the Met Police site where we heard about routes into policing and an insight into the day-to-day life of being in the Met. Students had the opportunity to get some hands-on experience with police equipment and have a tour of the site. Prue Musah was particularly interested in routes into policing and asked some excellent questions. We then had a visit to one of SEGRO’s other clients which was most unexpected. In an inconspicuous warehouse off the A10 is the UK and European headquarters of the WWE-the World Wrestling Entertainment. We met with Davey Coates, the International Production Manager for WWE. As we entered the warehouse we were transported, Narnia style, into a world of wrestling glitz and glamour with belts, wrestling paraphernalia and rings and sets prepared and ready for far flung locations such as Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Australia. Davey gave us an insight into the many lucrative roles involved in the entertainment industry and the skills required to manage million-dollar events: spreadsheets and man-management! Afolabi Oshikoya found it incredibly interesting and is going to focus on building his knowledge of Excel in our Digital Literacy lessons-part of the entitlement of all students in our 6th Form to give our young people the skills to succeed.
The site visit will be followed up with opportunities to apply for their mentoring programme and try to secure work experience this summer. We would like to thank SEGRO and Spark! for organising the visit and providing such a great insight into the world of work for our young people.

Upcoming Events - Autumn Term
Upcoming events/Dates for your diary
Term ends at 12:30 on Friday 4th May. We will be running lots of intervention sessions over the Easter break. This week in assembly I spoke about the importance of keeping active during the run up to exams. We know that exams are stressful and making sure we support our young people to recognise those signs of stress and take time to look after their wellbeing is incredibly important. Below is one of the slides from my presentation and some links for those students who might need some help. We also have our good2talk@oasisenfield.org. service which goes straight to our school counsellor.

Our Ethos at Oasis Academy Enfield
Our ethos is rooted in what we believe and who we are. Grounded in our story, it is an expression of our character; a set of values that inform and provide the lens on everything we do.
- A passion to include
- A desire to treat people equally respecting differences
- A commitment to healthy, open relationships
- A deep sense of hope that things can change and be transformed
- A sense of perseverance to keep going for the long haul
It is these ethos values that we want to be known for and to live by. We are committed to a model of inclusion, equality, healthy relationships, hope, and perseverance throughout all the aspects of the life and culture of every Oasis Hub and academy community.
We encourage every member of our family, be that staff or student, to align themselves to these ethos values. The values themselves are inspired by the life, message and example of Jesus but we make it clear that we will not impose on anyone, the beliefs that underpin our ethos values. We recognise and celebrate the richness that spiritual and cultural diversity brings to our community, respecting the beliefs and practices of other faiths in the hope that we will provide a welcoming environment for all.
