CENTENNIAL HIGHLIGHTS
ACADEMICS
Creature Curiosities: First Graders Engage in Wit & Wisdom Module 2
Miss Sutton’s first-grade class is abuzz with excitement as they embark on a new literary adventure in Module 2 of Wit & Wisdom: Creature Features. This engaging unit invites students to explore the essential question, What can we discover about animals’ unique features?
To kick off the module, students were introduced to one of Aesop’s timeless fables, The Ants & the Grasshopper. Through an interactive read-aloud with Miss Sutton and collaborative discussions with peers, the young learners began practicing critical reading skills. They shared what they noticed in the story and voiced their wonders, sparking curiosity about the behaviors and traits of animals.
This introductory activity sets the stage for purposeful reading and rereading, equipping students with strategies to delve deeper into texts as they uncover fascinating insights about the animal world. As Miss Sutton’s students continue their journey, they’ll grow not only as readers but as budding naturalists eager to discover the wonders of creatures great and small.
Stay tuned for more updates from this exciting module!
Diving into Discovery: Third Graders Explore the Wonders of the Ocean
Third-grade students embarked on an exciting journey into ocean exploration in Module 1 of Wit & Wisdom, The Sea! Inspired by the life and work of Jacques Cousteau, Willow Dale students learned how and why scientists uncover the mysteries of the sea. Using their creativity, each student illustrated and wrote a story to bring Cousteau's underwater adventures to life. They then shared their knowledge with Kindergarten students, sparking curiosity and a love for the ocean. Through meaningful reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities, their work beautifully captures the thrill of discovery and the vital importance of protecting our oceans.
Middle School Advanced and Intermediate Art Students Excel
Middle school students in Advanced Art classes are finishing their first long-term project, role model portraits. Using a grid enlargement process, students recreate a photo of a role model or someone they find inspiring. They then shade the portrait, bringing it to life. In the final step, students are designing a unique and colorful background related to their role model. This has been a favorite project over the years, where students gain confidence in their artistic abilities!
Students in Intermediate Art classes are working on landscape paintings for their Agamograph project. Agamographs are multi sided paintings inspired by the artist Yaacov Agam, who was known for his contributions to optical and kinetic art. The audience interacts with the art by viewing it from different angles, noticing something new each time they change their viewpoint. While Agam focused on simple shapes, patterns and colors in more elaborate designs, students are using two landscapes to create their version of an Agamograph.

CENTENNIAL EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Dear Friends of Centennial Education Foundation,
Take a Bite out of Hunger!
Help CEF to support the community of Centennial School District by raising funds for food.
Each day, there are families in our district that face the challenge of putting food on the table. Some may only eat one meal a day.
According to the USDA, the average cost today of a home cooked spaghetti dinner for a family of four is between $16-$20.
Admirably, the School District provides a way to help those in need of food through Klinger Middle School's Farmers Market and McDonald Elementary School's Food Pantry, but they can't do it without YOUR help! The response from our supporters has been overwhelmingly heartfelt, and this Giving Tuesday we want to continue with the goal of helping to feed those that need it.
Because the need for food still exists, we are hopeful, with your help, we can stock the shelves for the winter months. Please donate today. 100% of all funds raised will go to the Farmer's Market and Food Pantry.
Help us reach our goal of $3,000 to support this very important cause.
