This week is an exciting one at Steele! We will host our building Spelling Bee and our Family Movie Night, and we can’t wait to see which Steele Stars advance to the District 205 Spelling Bee.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we do need to postpone our Game Night and Silent Auction. If you have already donated items, they will be safely held and used at the rescheduled event. We sincerely appreciate the time and effort our volunteers have put into securing donations. The Steele PTO will notify families as soon as a new date is confirmed.

With the colder weather, students have been practicing expectations for indoor recess. Please remember that when the real-feel temperature is below 20 degrees, we remain indoors. When indoor, students can play board and card games, build structures, draw/color, and other similar activities. We would appreciate if personal toys and games are kept at home.

Flu season is also upon us, and we appreciate your help in reminding students to wash their hands frequently. If you are able, we are currently accepting donations of Kleenex boxes for our classrooms. We have experienced our second inclement weather day of the school year, which means school will now end two days later than originally projected.

Congratulations to our grade level Spelling Bee winners that will advance to the next round!

2nd grade: Mylah, Alexander, Genevieve

3rd grade: Parker, Mary Kae, Cullen

4th grade: Serenity, Christelle, Ashley

The Steele Building Bee has also been re-scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29th @ 2:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. The top 3 spellers from each grade level spelling bee will advance to the school spelling bee. Each of those spellers will receive the full 6-page study list at the end of their grade level bee as well as invitations for their parents/guardians.

The top 3 spellers from the building bee will advance to the District Spelling Bee, scheduled for Feb. 27th at the district office. Our 1st place winner from Steele will be invited to the Regional Spelling Bee, held at Moline High School, on March 21, 2026 @ 1:00 p.m. He or she will receive the "Words of the Champions" packet to study.

Please make sure your student is coming to school with weather appropriate outerwear for recess and remind them that it needs to be worn. We have hats, gloves, scarves and coats if you are in need. Please call the office or speak with your child's teacher to request these items.

The Shine in #205 program is a way for you to salute any CUSD #205 employee who goes above and beyond what is expected. Whether you are a parent/guardian impressed with that special touch your student's teacher added to a moment, a coworker who thinks their colleague doesn't hear often enough about the great job they are doing, or a community member who witnessed a staff member's commitment to students-you can submit a Shine nomination!

Please download the Galesburg App. When you receive your invitation email, then you can sign up for messaging. All staff will use this for communication this school year. Once you have the app downloaded, you will see your child's teacher and information in the app.
