May 2nd - Golden Honors Ceremony 8 PM Dome

Tuesday May 7 - FCCLA Senior Breakfast in the Foods Room! Last day for Seniors if they do not have to take a final exam

Wednesday May 8 - Senior Final Exams for any course below a C average

Friday May 10 - HS Grad Practice; Senior Walk; Senior BBQ

Congratulations to Lucas Bixby who is a Sangamon CEO graduate. Lucas pitched his idea of “Support Wear” in a Shark Tank style event on Friday. He was later honored as a CEO graduate along with his classmates at a dinner and ceremony.

Big shoutout to Coach Julian and our incredible Scholastic Bowl team for their outstanding performance at the National Academic Quiz Small School National Tournament in Rosemont, IL! Out of 88 top-notch teams, they clinched a stellar 21st place overall, while finishing the very small schools division with a remarkable 7th place finish! Special kudos to Tyler Hulett for an impressive 49th individual ranking, and to Matt Kapinus for his stellar 85th place finish! Way to show your smarts and represent New Berlin High School with pride!

The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce put on their first annual Youth Job Fair.

New Berlin high school students travelled to the Crowne Plaza to meet with over 30 businesses hiring for summer positions or offering internship opportunities. In addition, military services and colleges were on hand.

There are always questions about how students can earn a semester exam coupon. They qualify by earning the Prestigious Pretzel Incentive or by earning the Assessment Incentive. The details are in the NBHS Student Handbook and on the slides below!

NBHS Spanish I students have been working hard on their Mock Cooking Show presentations. They had to research a food or drink from a Spanish-speaking country and then present about it in Spanish as if they were chefs on a cooking show. Many of them choose to make the food or drink and bring it in to share with the class. This is always such a fun project. Spanish Dual Credit also had fun teaching Ms. Burke's 6th grade about animals on Friday. Also, here is their April bulletin board.

Ms. Johnson's Biology classes have been learning about DNA sequencing and genes. They used the sequences to design what the resulting gene patterns would create!

Athletic Eligibility Notification Updates: We will begin posting athletic eligibility in Skyward Family Access to notify students and parents of academic eligibility. We will plan to post it for F's only from now on. We used to send notification for D's as well; however, with this shift we will only notify those who have a failing grade and are academically ineligible for the next week. A reminder that weekly eligibility runs from Sunday to Sunday.

Senior Class

FAFSA Completion is a graduation requirement. Be sure to get your FAFSA completed or sign off on the waiver before May 10th.

Graduation orders are in the office if you still need to pick yours up!

If you have ordered a 22.23; 21.22; and/or a 20.21 NBHS Yearbook, they are available for pick-up M-F 8am-4pm in the high school office.

We are at the Quarter 3 Mid-Term! If your student is struggling, here are some opportunities we offer for help:

• 8th Hour Advisory Tutoring – Our National Honor Society students offer peer tutoring from during Advisory. Please contact your child's teacher, Mr. Viola, or me and we will get them signed up for tutoring!

• After School Support –There is a staff member available to help your child from 3:30-4:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with homework. Please contact me if you want your child to take advantage of this support.

• HW/Lunch Detention – Students that are missing several assignments or major projects may be assigned to a homework lunch detention until they have all missing work completed and are passing all of their classes.

• High School HW Advisory Academic Support– High school students may be assigned to a homework advisory detention until they have all missing work completed and are passing all of their classes.
