Northview HS Newsletter
October 12, 2026 Volume 4, Number 9
Northview Familia,
We had another great week at Northview High School! Our average weekly attendance was 96.9%! Thank you to our students and families for making attendance a priority. Every day in class is an opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. Let's keep up the great work, Vikings!
While our attendance remains strong, we did have 127 students arrive tardy to first period this week. Please take a moment to speak with your student about the importance of arriving at school on time and ready to learn. Even a few minutes of missed instruction each day can add up. Our school day begins at 8:30am, and we want every Viking starting the day on the right foot!
Viking Vision – Check Out Our Latest Episode!
Our talented FAME Academy students are back with another great episode of Viking Vision! This week's episode features a special look at our new Game Design class, where students are exploring creativity, technology, and innovation. The episode also includes a helpful refresher on our school lunch rules and expectations. Be sure to check it out and see the great work happening on our campus!
Spirit of Northview Band Sweeps First Place!
A HUGE congratulations to our Spirit of Northview Marching Band for an outstanding performance at their first field show of the season! Despite battling the rain at Valencia High School in Placentia, our Vikings delivered an incredible performance and swept first place in every category!
1st Place – Percussion
1st Place – Colorguard
1st Place – Overall Band
What an amazing way to kick off the competition season! Congratulations to our student musicians, performers, directors, and dedicated families for their hard work and commitment to excellence. You continue to make Northview proud!
Thank you, Viking families, for your continued support. Let's keep building on our momentum and making every day count!
Every Classroom. Every Student. Every Day.
That's the Gold Standard!
SAT DAY -- Wednesday, October 14, 2026
Northview High School's annual SAT Day is Wednesday, October 14! All students will participate in a grade-level assessment designed to measure college readiness and help prepare them for future academic opportunities.
9th Grade: SAT Practice Test
10th Grade: SAT Practice Test
11th Grade: Digital PSAT/NMSQT
12th Grade: Digital SAT
The SAT is an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their college readiness and potentially qualify for scholarships. We encourage families to speak with their students about taking these assessments seriously, getting a good night's rest, and arriving at school on time and ready to do their best!
Important: All students will be released early at 12:34 PM on Wednesday, October 14.
Students can access SAT preparation resources here.
Let's make it a great SAT Day, Vikings!
Northview Students Shine in University of La Verne REACH Program
This summer, 50 students participated in the three-week University of La Verne REACH Program, including seven Northview Vikings: Kenneth Montaya, Oluwatamilore Oyesile, Xochitl Gutierrez, Jesalyn Nava, Fabian Segura, Nathan Martinez, and Ervin Martinez Montoya.
Throughout the program, students developed skills in entrepreneurship, leadership, networking, and business development. Their culminating challenge required them to work collaboratively to create a realistic business plan and pitch their concept to a panel of eight judges at the University of La Verne.
One of the concepts developed was Fabian Segura's team's Creative Arts Learning Mobile (CALM), a mobile service designed to bring artistic materials, mental health supports, and mural experiences directly to schools. Students developed the concept, service model, pricing, and business structure before presenting their plan.
Our Vikings had an outstanding showing in the competition. Fabian Segura’s team earned first place, while Oluwatamilore Oyesile and Xochitl Gutierrez advanced to the Final Four, and Kenneth Montaya’s team also finished as a finalist.
Students were also recognized for successfully completing the program with honors, acknowledging their achievement from the California Legislature, California State Senate, and University of La Verne.
We are incredibly proud of our Vikings for taking advantage of this opportunity to learn, lead, collaborate, and apply their skills in an authentic setting. That’s the Gold Standard!

AVID Future Ready
This year's college fair was marked by the presence of many of our AVID students and their families! Students had the opportunity to meet with over 40 college and University representatives. The benefits of the fair extend far beyond high school graduation. By stepping out of their comfort zones to speak to college representatives, students develop the professional communication skills and emotional maturity required to navigate a college campus.
They learn how to network, how to ask for help, and how to build a foundational system of resources. When these students eventually step onto their chosen campus, they do so not as intimidated freshmen, but as self-directed learners who have already proven they belong at a university campus. As a schoolwide AVID program, we are ensuring our students are college ready.

Viking Spotlight
Meet Ethan Cerecedes, a Northview Viking with a game plan that includes basketball, a future in film, and a closet that’s probably more stylish than ours!
One thing Ethan loves most about Northview is the safe, welcoming environment that makes our campus feel like home. When he’s not hitting the court, you can find him shopping, exploring photography, or keeping up with the latest fashion trends.
His dream? Heading to USC to major in film. Looks like we may have a future director in the making!
But here’s the plot twist: Ethan is a total cat person with three cats at home! That’s right—three furry roommates who probably think they’re the real stars of the show.
Whether he’s making moves on the court or behind the camera, Ethan is definitely one to watch!
Keep shooting for the stars, Ethan—both on and off the court!
