Keeping Our Students Safe: ALICE Safety Training

This week students and staff will engage in ALICE training to help learn what to do if there is ever an unsafe situation at school. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. The goal is to provide students with simple, age-appropriate safety strategies while helping them feel confident that the adults at school are prepared to keep them safe.

To ensure the information is presented in a developmentally appropriate way, our School Adjustment Counselor will read I’m Not Scared, I’m Prepared! to students in grades 2 and 3. This story introduces ALICE safety strategies in a child-friendly and reassuring way and provides an opportunity for students to talk about what they can do to stay safe at school.

Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will participate in individual grade-level meetings to review ALICE training and school safety procedures. During these meetings, students will learn about the different ALICE strategies and the importance of listening carefully to adults, following directions quickly, and understanding that different situations may require different safety responses.

The purpose of ALICE training is not to frighten students, but to prepare them, much like we do with fire drills and other school safety procedures. Our focus is on helping students feel safe, informed, and supported while reinforcing that the adults at Granite Valley are responsible for guiding and protecting them during an emergency.

🥧Get ready for something delicious!🥧

MCM Lyman Pie Fundraiser order forms will be sent home with students on

Monday, September 28th.

Families who would like to participate should use the order form to collect pie orders from family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Please be sure to clearly complete all information on the order form and keep track of each customer’s order and payment.

A few important reminders:

  • Order forms will come home on September 28th.

  • Please review the fundraiser information and ordering directions included with the form.

  • Students should not go door-to-door without an adult.

  • Please double-check your order form before returning it to school.

  • Be sure to keep a record of your orders so you know who will receive each pie when orders arrive.

Thank you for supporting Granite Valley! Fundraisers like this are successful because of the participation and support of our families and community. We appreciate your partnership and hope everyone enjoys some delicious pie!

Grade 2 completed a group draw of a spooky house. We had lots of practice breaking directions into smaller chunks to achieve our drawing. We had lots of practice drawing squares and rectangles too! Next step will be to cut it out and glue to a watercolor and salt background.
