Democracy in Action: Pigeon vs. Pete the Cat!
Our 2nd graders participated in an exciting mock election this week to experience the voting process firsthand! Students dove into character studies of two beloved book icons—the mischievous Pigeon (Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!) and the cool, laid-back Pete the Cat (Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes).
Throughout the week, students analyzed each character's traits, compared their personalities, and discussed what makes a good leader. After thoughtful deliberation, teachers, administrators, and students cast their secret ballots at our mini polling station.
The results are in!!! By a vote of 206 to 57... Pigeon won the election!! Congratulations to Pigeon!
Beyond being a fun school event, this hands-on lesson introduced key civics concepts, critical thinking, and respectful opinion-sharing in a way our young learners will never forget.
Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports - PBIS
PBIS Focus of the Week: Building Digital Citizens & Tech Caretakers
This month in our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, students in Grades 2–5 are focusing on what it means to be safe, respectful, and responsible with school technology!
Here is what we are practicing at school and how you can support these habits at home:
What We Are Learning at School
Taking Care of Devices: Carrying laptops and tablets with two hands, keeping liquids away from electronics, and plugging in devices carefully so they are ready for learning.
Positive Digital Citizenship: Using online tools for learning, staying on assigned educational apps and websites, and treating classmates with kindness in shared digital spaces.
How You Can Support at Home
Create a Charging Station: Designate a central spot in your home for charging school devices overnight—preferably outside of bedrooms to encourage good sleep habits.
Talk About Digital Kindness: Remind your child that typing words online is just like saying them out loud—kindness matters everywhere!
Thank you for partnering with us to raise smart, safe, and respectful tech users!
