Hello Students and Families,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year!

There’s something special about the beginning of a school year. No matter how many first days you’ve experienced, there’s always a sense of excitement and anticipation as we get ready for a new year.

I was reminded of that excitement this week while talking with a group of our seniors who were preparing the first segment of our weekly video announcements. During our 9th Grade Open House, they were filming students answering the question, “What’s something you’re looking forward to about returning to school?” As I watched and talked with students about their responses, I was struck by how different they were. And I thought that was a really good thing. Their responses included Homecoming, Once Upon a Mattress (our fall musical), Friday night football games, AP Chem, Spirit Week, senior internships, Norwell Cares Day, Beginning Guitar class, Freshmen Kick-off Day, Model UN, robotics competitions, sports, and even the first day the cafeteria serves chicken bowls (always a student favorite!). And that’s just a small glimpse.

Listening to what students are looking forward to reminded me of all the ways our students come together, get involved, make memories, and feel part of our NHS community. It also showed me just how many different interests and opportunities make NHS such an amazing place.

As we prepare to settle into our new routine, experience all that a new school year has to offer, and create new memories, you’ll find all the information you need below to help make the transition back to school as smooth as possible.

Enjoy the long Labor Day weekend, and we look forward to experiencing all of our favorite things starting on Tuesday morning.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic year together!

NHS Flow of Traffic

The NHS loop is ONE WAY! Drivers, for the safety of our community please follow traffic flow at all times on campus.

Please DO NOT drop off students in Lot A during morning arrival. The extra vehicles moving through this lot creates an unsafe situation for students and staff walking through the lot. Please continue to the smaller Lot B for drop off.

MANDATORY Annual Parent Sign-off & Student Schedules

Families must update the necessary information regarding handbook acknowledgments, parental permissions, updated health history, etc, for each of your students. This is required at the beginning of each school year for every student. Detailed instructions on completing this task can be found here.

Student schedules will not be accessible through your Aspen account if the sign-off is not completed.

Summer Reading

This summer, Norwell High School is excited to announce that we are adopting a new summer reading model with the goal of creating a lifelong love of reading and building a community of learners. After a year of surveying stakeholders (students, parents, teachers), we have designed a program that encourages student choice and strengthens community, conversation, and leadership.

Here’s how it works: Students are required to read two books.

  • Book 1, Student-Choice: This can be absolutely anything the student wants to read for pleasure.
  • Book 2, PeerLit Book Group: This is a student-chosen book from our PeerLit Lists: 9th Grade List and 10-12th List.

What to Expect in the Fall:

  • Book Group Discussions: During the first week of school, all students will join a PeerLit Book Group during Clipper Time to discuss their second book in small groups.
  • Student Leadership: These groups will be facilitated by PeerLit Leaders - student volunteers trained to develop discussion questions and guide conversations to foster collaboration and community.

Why We Are Excited: Our new PeerLit initiative…

  • Focuses on meaningful literary discussions facilitated by trained PeerLit student leaders.
  • Promotes curiosity, discussion, and connection rather than performance on a traditional assessment.
  • Provides students with the opportunity to actively shape the school’s reading culture.

Parent Support & Accountability: Please join us in encouraging your student(s) by discussing their summer reading goals with them. Students have already selected their PeerLit book titles and groups. An email with your student’s selection will be sent home this week, along with a reminder in August that will include the room location for their PeerLit discussion.

We also ask for your support in completing the required Parent Sign-Off Form, which will be collected by ELA teachers in the first week of school. To ensure accountability, please note that failure to return the signed form will result in a zero for the “Summer Reading” assignment in the students’ 1st Term ELA grade.

Thank you for your continued partnership. We are excited to share discussions with students and look forward to collecting data and feedback from our new approach.

AP Summer Work

All AP summer assignments can be found on the AP Summer Work page.

Optional Math Summer Engagement Opportunity

We are happy to offer an opportunity for students who are interested in supporting their math skills this summer. We hope that students continue to engage in mathematical thinking. While the suggested activities are NOT mandatory, we hope that students and families will find time to engage in these opportunities.

Student Schedules

Finalized student schedules, including teacher names, section numbers, and class periods, are available in Aspen. Students can view a list of their scheduled classes by navigating to My Info --> Requests and viewing the Course Request Adjustments in Aspen.

iPad

iPad distribution will occur in Advisory on the first day of school. Families have the option of purchasing their own case for the Norwell Schools issued iPads for students in grades 6-12.

Here are the iPads that are in use for the 2026-2027 school year:

9th iPad 11
10th iPad 11
