SMS STUDENTS ASSIST AT ROTARY LUNCHEON
In partnership with Strongsville Rotary, Mr. Rodak, Mrs. Leach, Mr. Stevens, and Mrs. Yutzy recently brought SMS students to the senior center to serve a holiday lunch to Strongsville seniors. The students also presented the seniors with handmade cards, practiced their conversational skills they learned in class, and cleaned up the lunch. It was wonderful to see the students so excited about engaging in conversations, taking responsibility for their assigned jobs, and working together to make this such a nice event for our community. Great job by our students in taking this opportunity to be a part of service learning and practicing the skills they are learning in class!

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MEDIA SPECIALIST GIFT
Mrs. Lewis, Elementary School Media Specialist, has purchased the book "The Gift of Words" by Peter Reynolds for each Elementary School's Media Center. In addition to our Media Specialists reading the story to students, each elementary school has put up a tree similar to the book and students are adding their own "joyful" words to celebrate the season.
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. LORI DEERTZ, BUS DRIVER - SCS TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT
Mrs. Lori Deertz is a valued member of the SCS Transportation Department. What started as a way to fill some part time hours, Mrs. Deertz has been a bus driver for students in our District for 20 years! Mrs. Deertz’s Strongsville roots run deep - her grandfather was also a school bus driver for our District, and a custodian at Muraski Elementary. Mrs. Deertz embodies “Forever a Mustang” - growing up in our community, she attended both Muraski and Whitney Elementary schools, Albion Jr. High, and is a proud graduate of Strongsville High School. Her children also grew up in our District and are SHS alumni.
“The interaction with the kids is what I like best about my job. I drive all grade levels and see high school to preschool aged kids every day. Seeing their smiling faces and hearing the excitement in their voices when they have something exciting to tell me makes this job as unique and special as each individual student is on my bus!”
“The best thing about being part of the transportation department is how well we all work together to get the job done! It’s been a very challenging time with the driver shortage, but we pull together every day to make sure all our students get home safely!”
Thank you Mrs. Deertz for your commitment to getting our students safely to and from school on a daily basis! #ModelMustang
SHS AP US GOVERNMENT & POLITICS STUDENTS HOLD PRIMARY ELECTION DEBATE
Mr. Higgins - Career Based Intervention (CBI) Teacher at SHS - took his students on an engaging and educational field trip focused on modern manufacturing, automation, and entrepreneurial thinking. Students explored a variety of hands-on experiences, including operating robotics equipment, trying a welding simulator, and learning how automated packaging systems function. They were introduced to programming concepts, automation pathways, entrepreneurial ideas tied to innovation, and even had the opportunity to experience holograms for the first time. Students also enjoyed interacting with MAGNET’s mascot rover, OTIS, which added a fun and memorable element to the visit. To conclude the day, freshmen and sophomores competed in an RC car–building challenge, with the freshmen earning a well-deserved victory. This experience provided valuable real-world insight into high-demand career fields while keeping students actively engaged and inspired.
