Principal Message

Dear Golden Hills Families,

March was a great month at Golden Hills.

  • We had our second trimester awards assemblies for both grade levels in person with our families!

  • The Golden Hills soccer team has begun! Good luck Eagles!

  • The Golden Hills flag football has begun! Good luck Eagle!

  • Girls on the Run is practicing weekly!

  • The Growth Parade on March 21st was so much fun celebrating our students' successes! The rain stayed away for us! We loved seeing our families on campus to celebrate all the students' hard work!

  • The STEAM Museum on March 6th to celebrate our students' attendance!

  • March Madness Attendance Brackets to find out who had the best March attendance: This also included a Pringles Challenge to find which type of Pringles students think are the best. As classes moved forward in the attendance bracket they were able to taste test the pringles. The class that won the March Madness attendance tournament was Mrs. Langone’s, they earned a pizza party and a Gaga Ball Party!.

  • A School -Wide Game Day: Students participated in a Blooket, ate lunch outside together and a bonus recess celebrate meeting our PBIS goal (Positive Behavior Interventions Supports)

  • Great Job Jaxton and Miguel for representing Golden Hills in the County Wide Spelling Bee!

We are in the third trimester and have so much learning to do before the end of the year. We have been visiting classrooms and discussing the importance of respect and kindness to each other. Please talk to your student about the importance of kindness. Both grade levels have an end of the year contract for fun field trips. These field trips are privileges and students must follow the expectations of the contracts to be able to attend.Thank you!

Did you know we have homework packets in the Golden Hills office? Our nightly homework for Golden Hills is reading and practicing math facts. We also offer an optional homework packet for families who want more practice. The packet includes reading comprehension, math practice, Science and Social Studies based on concepts the students are learning throughout the month.

Specific Needs Requests for 2025-2026

Due to the nature of our program at Golden Hills, where students may have several teachers in a given day, we don’t take teacher requests. Instead, we value your input on the specific needs your child may have that will assist us in making appropriate placements. Please feel free to pick up a form in the Main Office at Golden Hills between April 1st and May 15th.

Shady Creek Field Trip for 2025-2026 school year!

Shady Creek is a three night, four day environmental camp. Our fourth grade class will be attending next year. In order to attend we must have parent volunteers to stay in the cabins with the students. These parents must be cleared through our district through the volunteer process. We will need to have the parents cleared before the end of this school year to commit to going! The reserved dates for Shady Creek are the week before our October intercession. Please begin the process so we can be sure we have enough parent volunteers.

Fourth Grade families, we will need you for next year! We need around 10 females and 10 male chaperones for the cabins. So far we have 11 volunteers. We have nine females and 1 male. At this time we will add females on a waitlist to go but we NEED males. We will need 7 males. We have requested the date of Sept. 30th- October 3rd, this will be confirmed before the end of the year.

Please click the link below to sign up to volunteer:

Attendance

Our goal is to have 95% average daily attendance.

The class in the month of April with the best attendance will win a VR party!

We had a March Madness Attendance Challenge! Congratulations to Mrs. Langone’s! They win a pizza party and are the first class to use our new GAGA Ball pit!

If your child is absent please call the school office to let them know the reason so that your child can possibly be excused. Also, if your child will be absent you can request independent study. Your child will receive work to do and if the work is completed, your child will receive credit for attendance and will not be counted as absent. If you have questions, please call the school office.

Third Trimester Attendance Challenge is a field trip to the movies:

Students must have less than 16 absences for the entire year or less than 6 absences for the third trimester 3/11/24-5/ 23/25. Our field trip is scheduled for May 27th!

Attendance is very important, if your student is not at school, they cannot learn. Thank you for your support!

Social Media

We want to remind you of the impact social media, especially Snapchat, can have on students at school. We’ve seen an increase in conflicts, distractions, and even cases of cyberbullying that start at home online and carry over into the classroom. Because messages and images on Snapchat disappear quickly, it can be difficult to monitor what is being shared. This can lead to unsafe situations, misunderstandings, and hurt feelings among students. We encourage you to closely monitor your student’s social media use and have open conversations about online safety, kindness, and responsibility. By working together, we can help create a safer and more positive school environment for all students.

Phones are not allowed on Golden Hills campus, we have had students using phones and taking pictures around campus. Students' phones will be taken to the office and a referral will be given if this is happening.

Youth Substance-Use Prevention Parent Education Night ZOOM

Hello everyone,

We will be on campuses throughout Butte County next week promoting Take Down Tobacco. This is a week where we partner with Club Live chapters and other local community health organizations to bring awareness to the dangers of tobacco and cannabis, with an emphasis on what healthy coping skills look like. These mini outreach events are only available to students, but we will offer a youth substance-use prevention webinar for caregivers and anyone else living or working with teens on the evening of Wednesday April 2nd from 7-8pm. Free and open to everyone via ZOOM.

Please send out the attached flyer and help us spready the word!

Thank you!

Counselor’s Message

In March the Wellness Coach and I taught lessons on the Blueprint. The Blueprint is a RULER tool that helps us solve conflict. The Blueprint gets us thinking about others feelings and how our behavior impacts others. We watched a video with a conflict and had the students walk through the questions in the blueprint based on the video.

We also conducted internet safety lessons. The 3 main points were to (1) not share private information online (2) to report things that make us feel uncomfortable (3) not to download anything without permission. Students were encouraged to talk to their parents/guardians about anything that makes them feel uncomfortable online and before they download anything. We talked about “red flags” for example: if someone asks them to share private information or not tell their parents about them or to meet up with them in person.

The feeling of the month for April is Valued. Valued is a green feeling on the Mood Meter because our pleasantness is high and our energy levels are lower. Please talk with your children about what makes you feel valued. It feels good to be valued and we want to feel that way. Talk about some ways that you can help others feel valued.

Talent show try outs happened last week. We had a great turn out of talent! I’ll get results for the students by the end of this week. The talent show will be on April 16th in the afternoon.

In the month of April we will be starting a number of new counseling groups, breakfast clubs and lunch bunches. We will also be offering lessons on sportsmanship to all of our classrooms.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out via email rwalker@palermok8.org or phone at 530-532-6000 ext 4601.

Sincerely,

Rainbow Walker
