“Home of the Spartans where we are Spartan Strong!”
Dear Erdenheim Families:

Costume Parade Details
On Friday, October 30th, we will host our annual costume parade. This is an optional event for students and families. For students who do not celebrate Halloween, we will have an alternative event, the Fall Celebration. The Fall Celebration will provide fun fall activities for students. This alternative activity will start at 10:15 a.m., the same time as the start of the parade. If you would like your child to participate in the Fall Celebration instead of the Costume Parade/classroom party, please RSVP by clicking here!
For those who choose to participate, the parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. Families are invited to attend the outdoor parade, weather permitting. However, parents will not be permitted to attend classroom parties unless they are registered party volunteers with the room parent.
Here are a few reminders about the parade:
Children will exit the front entrance of the building and walk down the front sidewalk. The route will then proceed up Springfield Way and will turn around at the 309 tunnel. The parade will end at the front door of the school. Students will then return to their classrooms for parties. Click on this link for the parade route: Halloween Parade Route.
Springfield Way will close at 9:50 a.m. Parking will be permitted in the Middle School lot (walk through the tunnel), Erdenheim’s upper lot (lot will close at 9:50 so please arrive early), and there will be limited parking at the High School. Cars parked in Erdenheim’s upper lot will need to be cleared immediately following the parade. We encourage parents, family, and friends to carpool due to limited parking.
This year, we have a full day of school, so classroom party times will vary. Please look for communication from your child's classroom teacher regarding classroom party times. EEHSP room parents are coordinating volunteers and treats for these classroom parties.
If you plan to take your child home before dismissal, please send an email to the attendance line (er_attendance@sdst.org) or PowerSchool Safe Arrival.
The rules for costumes include the following:
Costumes must be appropriate for elementary school.
No toy weapons of any kind are allowed.
Students may wear a mask during the parade but will have to remove it when they are in the classroom during the day.
If students are wearing face paint as part of their costume, they need to come to school with it on.
Students either need to keep their costumes on all day, or be able to independently get them on/off at school.
You do not need your clearances to watch the parade outside along our parade route.
Squishy Items Reminders
As I'm sure you all know as parents, kids continue to be very excited by squishy items like NeeDoh and similar things like squishy cubes, dumplings, and now peanuts. We're seeing these items causing challenges in school in a couple of ways. First, they can be a distraction with students playing with them at their desk during instruction. There have also been problems with students losing them, confusing their item for a friend's, or regretting a trade they made with a friend. Finally, depending on the type, they can also cause a mess if they break.
Moving forward, we are requesting that students do not bring items like this to school. If students have them, we will ask them to keep them in their backpacks during school and on bus rides just like we would with any other toy. The only limited exceptions would be students with a fidget accommodation in their IEP where parents and teachers agree a small squishy item is effective for students or as a special occasion class reward communicated directly by the homeroom teacher.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Band, Chorus, and Orchestra Morning Dropoff Reminders
Additionally, we have received several reports that families are dropping off students in the staff parking lot and having them walk to the front of the building. Oftentimes, this prevents our staff members from accessing parking.
We appreciate everyone's commitment to dropping off students in a timely manner, and we thank you in advance for your support with ensuring a smooth morning arrival for all students.

Smartwatch and Cell Phone Reminders
Elementary Smartwatch & Cell Phone Use: Ensuring smartwatch and cell phone use at the Elementary Level is only occurring outside of the instructional day. Students are not to wear or use these devices in school. We will expect them (if brought to school) to remain in their personal backpacks until after school hours.
Carline Reminders
For families dropping off and picking up students in the carline, please remember that cars must enter from Paper Mill Road and come down Springfield Way and turn left into our upper parking lot. This will help to prevent congestion at the entrance of the upper parking lot. We appreciate everyone's efforts to help us keep carline running smoothly.
