LV High School Newsletter

#beLieVe: Weeks of September 29 - October 12, 2025
We Are Still Missing Many Permission Slips!
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Legislative updates have required schools to gain consent prior to services/participation. We are missing a large amount of consent forms. Please check that you have completed the following items and returned/submitted them to LVHS:
* Student Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use Policy (printed copy was sent home)
* Consent for School Counseling (electronic submission)
* Parent Consent for School Related Health Services (printed copy was sent home)
* School club(s) permission to participate (sent home by club sponsor)
All of these forms are posted to this newsletter for your convenience. Please help us ensure your student can receive the services he/she needs.
Has Your Child Returned LVHS Acceptable Use Policy and Code of Conduct?
Copies of LVHS Code of Conduct and Technology Acceptable Use Policy were sent home the week of August 18th. Please send these sigend forms back to school as soon as possible.
Notice of Consent for School Counseling
The 89th Texas Legislature recently passed Senate Bill 12, which requires school districts to notify parents of staff services related to mental health and to give parent/guardians the opportunity to opt out before mental health-related services are provided to their child.
This form must be submitted for each student. Consent given through this form is effective during the current school year unless rescinded earlier.
You must complete this form for each student enrolled in La Vernia ISD.
School counseling services are more fully explained in board policy FFEA, and student mental health is covered in board policy FFEB. Information about threat assessments can be found in board policy FFB.
Have You Returned Consent for Health Services?
Notice of and Consent for School Health-Related Services
This form must be signed and returned to LVISD Health Services. Consent given through this form is effective during the current school year unless revoked earlier.
In accordance with new law as of Sept.1, 2025, the District must provide parents with written notice of each school-based health-related service offered at the campus their child attends. These routine services promote student safety, wellness, and readiness to learn. The services may be provided by qualified school staff, including nurses and athletic trainers. This consent does not take the place of an individualized health plan, 504 plan, or other legally required document.
A parent has the right to withhold consent for or decline any health-related service.
Printed copies of this form were sent home last week. For you convenience, the forms have been linked below.

Making Connections
Last week, Mrs. Sutton’s Business Practicum students spent the day in San Antonio seeing how the lessons they’ve carried since freshman year connect to the real world. For four years, they’ve studied corporate social responsibility, sustainability, innovation, project & process management and more. Yesterday’s trips brought all of that to life.
First stop was at SAWS Steven Clouse Recycle Center, they learned how recycling on a large scale takes careful planning and how businesses can turn sustainability into opportunities and revenue streams. Then their second stop was at Port SaAntonio where they toured Tech Port and SAMSAT, where they explored the future of technology from plans to manufacture new inventions like the Vertiport to breakthroughs in robotic surgery and 3D-printed organs that could save lives. Even more inspiring, many of the inventions that will be going into manufacturing were first developed by college and high school students who turned their ideas into reality innovations that will soon create new jobs for San Antonio and the surrounding area.
These trips aren’t just about what students see, but about how they connect the dots between what they’ve studied and the future they’re stepping into. Proud of these Business Bears for taking it all in with curiosity and leadership.
Law Practicum Students Visit the Texas Capitol!
Mrs. Hunter had the opportunity to take the LVHS Law Practicum class and Senior Mock Trial members to visit the Texas Capitol. They, along with other high school students from all over Texas, were able to attend the TEX-ABOTA James Otis Lecture Series celebrating Constitution Day. They received a tour of the Capitol (which included the Senate Chamber and the House of Representatives), attended the lecture series, in which they heard from Dr. H.W. Brand, and were treated to a delicious lunch at the historic Scholz Garten. Students received a Certificate of Participation and a book from Dr. Brand. Dr. Brand is a Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, has written 30 books, 2 of which were finalists for the Pulitzer Prize, and is a New York Times Bestselling Author. It was a great day and an incredible opportunity for our Law students!

La Vernia ISD is proud to announce that our Primary, Intermediate, Junior High and High School campuses have been awarded the Purple Star Campus Designation from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This honor recognizes our district’s commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families.
The Purple Star Campus Designation is an award given by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to Texas districts and charter schools that meet specific criteria for supporting military-connected families. Each fall, TEA awards the Purple Star to applicants who meet the following criteria:
Designate a campus-based military liaison who must:
Support military-connected students and their families.
Provide professional development opportunities for staff members on issues related to military-connected students.
Create and maintain an easily accessible webpage with information for military- connected students and their families.
Implement a campus transition program that includes:
Introductions to the school environment and processes.
A student leader or ambassador program, supported by a campus-based staff member.
Organizing and hosting newcomer social events, guided tours of the campus, and accompanying new students to lunch during their first week of school.
Offer at least one of the following initiatives:
A resolution showing support for military-connected students and families.
Participation in the Month of the Military Child or Military Family Month.
A partnership with a school liaison officer to provide opportunities for active-duty military members.
The Purple Star Campus Designation highlights the hard work of our dedicated educators, counselors, and staff in ensuring that military-connected students receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially. As we celebrate this achievement, we look forward to continuing our support of military families and enhancing the resources available to ensure their success.
