Bell Schedule this week: AABCD
Family Promise Drive
For our school-wide activity highlighting the Cub PRIDE value of Integrity, our Cubs learned about a local organization called Family Promise of the Palouse. Family Promise works with community partners to house families that are experiencing homelessness and help them get back on their feet. On Wednesday in Home Rooms, our students each created a coloring page that will will be put together into coloring books for the young children that Family Promise works with. I was truly touched and inspired as I walked from room to room and chatted with students. They were so excited to show me their drawings! The conversations and discussions were thoughtful, and I could tell that our students not only enjoyed the activity but also felt good about doing something kind for people in our community. I posted some pictures on our Cubs Facebook page - check it out.
We are also hosting a drive to collect items that Family Promise says they need the most - a list is provided below. Our focus on Integrity includes the value statement "I will be kind to others." We know that our students depend on parents to help with donations like this, and we appreciate your kindness too! Go Cubs! We will deliver the items next weekend - one more week to support Family Promise!
Math Counts
We have a math club here at MMS, and those students have the opportunity to participate in a competition called Mathcounts. Moscow Middle School competed against Palouse Prairie in the 2026 Regional Chapter competition of MATHCOUNTS, and we took first place!
We had five competitors from our school this year: Koharu Nomura, Olivia Halladay, Eliana Wilson-Butterfield, Maverick Etienne, and Joshua Potirniche. ALL FIVE of them qualified for STATE! The state competition is being held March 14 in Boise. The team won $1000 from GPI, Alta Science, ICCU, and the University of Idaho for our school to help pay for any travel/lodging expenses for state. The University of Idaho will also be awarding scholarships to the top competitors should they choose to attend the U of I.
The competition took place at SEL's facility in Moscow, which was perfect for the event. We competed in individual Sprint Rounds, Target Rounds, Team Rounds, and even a game-show style Countdown Round, which is always the most exciting part. All students were able to answer difficult questions throughout the day that had stumped most of the adults in the audience. Go Cubs!!
Cheer Shoutout
A quick shout out to our Cubs Cheer Team. Most of the time, these kids are working hard cheering on our athletes at their competitions, and spreading cheer around the school, but they also have their OWN cheer competitions and they just loaded the bus and left for their last event of the year in CDA. These Cubs do so much for our school and I'm so proud of their hard work. Good luck and Go Cubs!
STEAM Show
Once again, Moscow Middle School will host a STEAM Show in March. This year, it will be even bigger and better than last year. Now is the time to get registered. Many of our Cubs are already getting ready for their presentations. If you know of someone who would like to be part of the community event please don't hesitate to reach out me (summerst@msd281.org) or to Ms. Godfrey (godfreym@msd281.org) or use the QR code below to find out more!
8th Grade Parents - picture time!
Every year, our Yearbook students put together a presentation for our End-Of-Year Assembly to celebrate our 8th grade students. It is time for them to get to work on that project and we need your help! We like to include a baby picture of each of our 8th grade students to contrast with their "leaving middle school" picture. The students love it, and it has become a fun tradition. We also try to include a picture of each 8th grader with friends doing a fun activity.
Parents - please email a favorite baby photo of your 8th grade student to our Yearbook Advisor, Ms. Frederick: frederickr@msd281.org. You can also send a "friend" picture of your 8th grader, or let them select one and pass it on to our Yearbook students themselves. If you don't want your child's photos included in the presentation, please let Ms. Frederick know ASAP.
