Congratulations, Lion Cubs! We have officially completed the first quarter of the school year! We are so proud of our students for their hard work, growth, and determination over the past nine weeks. As we prepare for the second quarter, we encourage all students to reflect on their accomplishments, set new academic and personal goals, and continue demonstrating our ROAR expectations: Respect, Ownership, Academics, and Resilience. 🦁 Capturing Kids’ Hearts – Teamwork! 🖤💛

Our Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) character trait focus is Teamwork! At Haw River Elementary, we are teaching our Lion Cubs that great things happen when we work together, support one another, and celebrate each other's successes. Teamwork means listening to others, showing kindness, sharing responsibilities, and understanding that everyone has something valuable to contribute. Families, we encourage you to practice teamwork at home by completing tasks together, helping one another, and celebrating family accomplishments. Let's remind our students that Together Everyone Achieves More! When we work as a team, we grow stronger. Together We ROAR!

🦁 Capturing Kids’ Hearts: ¡Colaboracion! 🖤💛

¡Nuestro enfoque del programa *Capturing Kids’ Hearts* (CKH) en esta ocasión es el trabajo en equipo! En la escuela primaria Haw River, enseñamos a nuestros «cachorros de león» que suceden cosas maravillosas cuando trabajamos juntos, nos apoyamos mutuamente y celebramos los éxitos de los demás. El trabajo en equipo implica escuchar a los demás, mostrar amabilidad, compartir responsabilidades y comprender que cada persona tiene algo valioso que aportar. ¡Familias, les animamos a practicar el trabajo en equipo en casa realizando tareas juntos, ayudándose unos a otros y celebrando los logros familiares! ¡Recordemos a nuestros estudiantes que, cuando trabajamos juntos, logramos mucho más! When Should I Keep My Child Home?

We know it can be difficult to decide when your child is too sick for school. Our goal is to keep all of our students and staff healthy and learning!

Please consider keeping your child home when they are experiencing:

• 🌡️ A fever — especially if your child has a temperature of 100.4°F or higher

• 🤢 Vomiting or diarrhea — your child should be feeling better before returning to school

• 😷 Significant coughing, difficulty breathing, or other respiratory symptoms that prevent them from comfortably participating in school

• 😴 Extreme tiredness or weakness that makes it difficult to participate in normal school activities

• 👁️ Pink eye with drainage or symptoms that have not been evaluated when required

• 🦠 A contagious illness — please follow your healthcare provider's guidance and school guidelines for when your child may return

If your child is not feeling well enough to learn, play, eat, and participate comfortably, it may be best to give them a day at home to rest and recover.

🤢 Vómitos o diarrea — su hijo debe sentirse mejor antes de regresar a la escuela

😴 Cansancio o debilidad extrema que dificulte la participación en las actividades escolares habituales

👁️ Conjuntivitis con secreción o síntomas que no han sido evaluados cuando es necesario

🦠 Una enfermedad contagiosa — por favor, siga las indicaciones de su proveedor de atención médica y las normas de la escuela sobre cuándo puede regresar su hijo

While each of you are familiar with our school handbooks, we wanted to make sure you had access to the District’s Code of Conduct that guides our decisions with consequences. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our administrative team.

Reminders:

• School begins at 7:50 a.m. for ALL students Pre-K-5. If you arrive after 7:50, you must park in the Pre-K parking lot and walk in with your students to sign them in before they can go to class.
• Breakfast will stop being served at 9:00 am.
• If you need to change your child's afternoon transportation, please call the front office at (336) 578-0177 before 2:00 p.m. Teachers will not be able to check and respond to messages and emails throughout the day during instructional time. Please do not expect an immediate response from your child's teacher during instructional hours. Office hours for teachers begin after 3:00 p.m.
• Families may come to eat lunch with your students. Please reach out to your child's teacher 24 hours in advance to let them know you are coming so they can plan for seating. Remember: NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK MAY BE BROUGHT IN. Upon arrival, please sign in at the front office and get a visitor's tag.
• Just a quick safety reminder: If you are signing your student (s) out early (before 2:20 p.m.), you must go inside the front office and check them out. If you arrive after 2:20 p.m., to sign your child out, you must wait until the dismissal announcements are made at 2:25 p.m. We appreciate your cooperation with this matter!
