Weekly update for Peirce Middle School

Peirce Pride Weekly update for Peirce Middle School

This week, Peirce will celebrate Red Ribbon Week starting Monday, October 26. Students will participate in different activities to show their support for living a healthy and drug free lifestyle. The Peirce Student Council organized the activities and the attached flyer describes the theme for each day. First up, pajama day! We will conclude the week with a Halloween day on Friday, October 30. Face painting is permitted as long as the student is identifiable. Students may not bring real or fake props (i.e., lasers, pitchforks, weapons, sticks, etc.) or fake blood. Please avoid costumes and clothing that depict excessive violence, gore, or could cause disruption to the school environment. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with a question!

On Wednesday, October 14, Peirce Middle School successfully completed our ALICE safety drill. Prior to the drill, students participated in a safety presentation led by Campus Safety Officer Christina Spigarelli, reinforcing the importance of situational awareness, making informed decisions, and responding appropriately during emergency situations.

Throughout the exercise, our students and staff demonstrated cooperation, attentiveness, and a commitment to maintaining a safe school environment. We are proud of the way our school community approached this important learning opportunity. We extend our appreciation to our staff for their support, and to our families for your continued partnership as we work together to maintain a safe, supportive, and prepared school community.

Parent Team Conferences at PMS

Parent-team conferences will take place in person on Tuesday, November 24 and Wednesday, November 25 at Peirce Middle School. Unlike elementary school, middle school conferences are not scheduled for every child.

Our Counseling Department will work with our grade level teams to identify the students/families for which this type of meeting will be crucial to their academic achievement. Their school counselor (phone and email) will notify these families by the end of the day on Friday, November 6.

Parents who have not been contacted, but wish to have a team conference, may do so by completing a request form during the week of November 9-November 13. The request link will be shared with families on Monday, November 9. Families will be notified of their conference times by the end of the day on Friday, November 20.

TEAM Conference Days:

Tuesday, Nov 24: 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Wednesday, Nov 25: 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Peirce to hold Veteran's Day Assembly on Wednesday, November 11

On Wednesday, November 11, the Peirce Middle School will recognize the men and women of our Armed Forces with a Veteran's Day Assembly. As part of the program, we are coordinating a panel to share their experiences and answer student questions. If you have interest in serving on our panel, please reach out to me by the end of the day on Friday, October 23. Thank you for considering this opportunity. Additionally, Peirce Middle School is proud to continue our annual donation drive to support disabled veterans at the Coatesville Veterans’ Hospital. From October 13–23, we are asking our Charger families to help us give back to those who have bravely served our country. Each grade level is encouraged to donate specific items: 6th grade – shampoo, 7th grade – body wash, and 8th grade – men’s deodorant. Additionally, students in all grade levels are welcome to donate sweatpants of all sizes. Donations can be dropped off in students’ History/Geography classrooms. Thank you for helping our Chargers demonstrate kindness, empathy, and gratitude while making a meaningful difference in the lives of our veterans!

Nurses Corner-Message from the school nurse

Dear Peirce Families,

With recent amendments to student health services, made by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, please review this important new information regarding annual mandated growth screenings (height & weight):

  • Schools must keep all growth screening results private and use them to track a student's growth.

  • BMI can no longer be used as part of health or PE class activities, and any height/weight data collected in class must remain confidential.
  • Parents can opt their child out of height and weight screenings by submitting a written request/exemption to the School Nurse.
  • BMI will only be calculated for confidential reporting to the Department of Health.
  • Schools cannot send growth screening and BMI results home unless a parent requests them, from the School Nurse, in writing.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions to Mrs. Alessi (salessi@wcasd.k12.pa.us) or Mrs. Dee (jdee@wcasd.k12.pa.us).
