September Update
Glasscock County ISD
Dear Bearkat Community,
Thank you for allowing us to serve your children for the 2024-2025 school year. August has been amazing! Our students have jumped into their classes with enthusiasm, and our teachers have been working hard to make learning exciting and enjoyable. It’s been wonderful to see our BEARKATS getting into the groove of the new school year.
As we begin to have events throughout the day, we wanted to remind you to always bring a form of ID as safety is a priority at GCISD. Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. Your support will make this school year fantastic, and we’re grateful to have you with us.
We look forward to Achieving Excellence Together!

Bond Update
On Monday, August 12th, the GCISD Board of Trustees voted to call a bond election for November 5th. The $40 million single-proposition bond proposal will not require a tax rate increase. The projects in Proposition A are designed to help increase student learning opportunities and outcomes along with meeting safety and security requirements.

Academic Update
Let's Talk MAP Testing
NWEA MAP testing is important because it shows how each student is doing and where they need help, allowing teachers to adjust their lessons accordingly. It tracks progress over time, helps teachers make better decisions, and sets practical goals for students. It also compares students’ performance to national standards and helps identify learning gaps early. Overall, it supports a more personalized approach to improve student learning. Students completed beginning of the year assessments during the first two weeks of school. We can't wait to share student data with you to ensure we have a partnership with our families as we set growth goals for all students.
Pathways
Pathways, as described on the Education Advanced website, is a tool designed to assist students and families in navigating educational and career planning. Here's a summary of how it can be beneficial:
1. Career Exploration - Pathways helps students explore various career options by providing information on different professions, including job descriptions, required skills, and potential earnings. This allows students to make informed decisions about their future career paths.
2. Educational Planning - The tool aids in mapping out educational requirements for various careers. It helps students understand what academic courses or degrees are necessary to achieve their career goals.
3. Personalized Guidance - Pathways offers personalized recommendations based on individual interests and skills, which helps students and families create a tailored educational and career plan.
4. Goal Setting and Tracking - It supports goal setting and tracking progress, making it easier for students to stay on track with their educational and career objectives.
5. Resource Access - Pathways provides access to valuable resources such as scholarships, internships, and other opportunities that can support students in their educational and career journeys.
Overall, Pathways aims to streamline the process of career and educational planning, making it more accessible and manageable for students and their families. Mrs. Fryar is excited to begin implementing pathways with all students in grades 6-12 as one more tool to ensure all students are College, Career, and Military Ready (CCMR).
