Blakeney Elementary School was all smiles at the end of December! Before the students went home for Christmas Break, Dr. James Epps made sure that none of the 700 students walked out the building present-less. School leaders worked together to raise $10,000 to shop for and package all of the gifts. They all can agree that the smiles on the children's faces made it all worthwhile!

National Day Calendar

January 12 commemorates National Curried Chicken Day, National Marzipan Day, National Pharmacist Day and National Kiss a Ginger Day. Burke County families can celebrate this holiday by cooking a curried chicken entree with a Marzipan figurine for dessert. To make this meal extra special, it may be enjoyed in a pharmacy with your special date of the evening, a pharmaceutical specialist who just so happens to be a red head. The Paw Print crosses its claws that you're not too shy to mention what the National Day is... if you know what we mean.

Word of the Day

The Word of the Day is Zenith! Zenith is a noun that refers to the highest point of something. While it originally was used solely by astronomers to explain the actions of celestial bodies, it can be used in any context nowadays! The Paw Print hopes that January 1st was not the zenith of your 2022!

We challenge you all to use this word as many times as you can this week, extra points if you use it in the right context, EVEN MORE points if you have to explain to somebody what it means!

Marz-I-Can Make It!

What's a better way to celebrate National Marzipan Day than making your very own Marzipan figures at home?! There is a super sweet Marzipan Recipe attached to the image on the right! Once you make the marzipan itself, it can be arranged into different figurines that can be painted AND EATEN! OM NOM NOM! We would love to see your little candy creations, so you all can post them to facebook and instagram with a chance to be featured on our social media pages!
