Ott's Outlook

January 2019

Ott's OutlookJanuary 2019

We are off to fantastic start to the second semester across the district! I shared with our staff earlier this week that on a personal note, I had an opportunity to reflect on the last 7-8 months in my new role during the holidays. As I played through the different scenarios I found myself landing in the same two places – opportunity and thankfulness.

As for opportunity, we all are truly fortunate to have the ability to care for, support, mold, shape, inform and teach our students. This is a call to action primarily reserved for parents and educators; and we are so lucky to be in one or both of these categories – literally and figuratively.

As far as thankfulness, I can tell you that I am truly thankful for the support that this community provides to our district. Your outpouring of concern and compassion for the needs of our students and staff is unparalleled. Any time we have a need in TISD, there is an immediate rally of support from our community to meet that need. From mentoring elementary students, to opening your businesses for high school student internships and practicums, to in-kind donations of supplies and materials--evidence of this community's support is embedded district-wide.

As Temple ISD continues to move forward wholly committed to excellence in education and human development, thank you for the role that you play in providing our students with the very best opportunities each and every day.

January is School Board Appreciation Month

We are fortunate to have an incredible Board of Trustees in TISD who serve tirelessly and selflessly for our students. I encourage each of you to watch this video below from the Texas Association of School Boards which provides an overview of the role that school board members play in supporting and governing school districts.

  • Temple ISD hosted The National Academy for Personalized Learning sponsored by Google. This one-day professional development training was focused on best practices for implementing and sustaining blended learning practices. In attendance were more than 60 education professionals representing 17 different entities from across the state.
  • THS CTE hosted their inaugural CenTex Weld-off last month. Schools from across Central Texas brought their students who competed in a variety of welding challenges.
  • THS CTE hosted their very first local chapter Wildcat Classic Livestock Show. The event was well attended and it proved very beneficial for our students participating in future FFA such as the upcoming Bell County Youth Fair.

...Now that you know, please share these exciting accomplishments with others!
