HOUSE BILL 96 - ERODING LOCAL CONTROL FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS

As the State Legislature continues its work on the budget, the Senate is finalizing amendments to House Bill 96 (HB96), which could have serious financial implications for our District if passed. One provision of HB96 proposes capping administrative costs at 15% of a district’s operating budget. This arbitrary limit applies uniformly to all districts across the state, regardless of size, structure, or unique needs. Such a cap would significantly reduce our flexibility and hinder the variety of support services we provide to students, staff, and families. Our concern extends beyond this single provision. Rather, it’s about preserving the ability of local communities to determine what’s best for their schools. HB96 represents yet another step in eroding local control, limiting our capacity to make decisions that reflect the priorities and values of our community. As the state budget process continues, we strongly encourage you to speak up in support of local decision-making. Please consider contacting: Senator Patton [(614) 466-8056⎹ Click for Contact Form] and Representative Dovilla [(614) 466-4895⎹ Click for Contact Form]. Let them know how House Bill 96 could negatively impact our schools and your children’s education. Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can ensure our students continue to receive the high-quality education they deserve.
