Hello Desert Sonora Community!

We are very grateful for your partnership & support during our October 2025 Fall Festival. We had over 150 families join us that evening. Here at DSS, we welcome our students’ families to collaborate and be a part of our educational community. This November, we will host our DSS Family Thanksgiving Luncheon on Tuesday, November 18th. Please see the flyer below for more details & schedule. For mor information, please contact the DSS office.

During November, all Hawks will be learning about Teamwork, which is the Capturing Kids Hearts Character Trait for this month. I invite you to read the CKH Newsletter, which provides more information regarding this trait.

Our teachers continue to focus on grade level academic standards as well as teaching our students about "Teamwork." Equally important, our student continue to focus on Capturing Kids Hearts components & the reasons why we are respectful, responsible, & safe.

I ask all our DSS families to please continue to drop off students no earlier than 7:30 am. Our staff begins to welcome students right at this time. Dropping off students earlier than 7:30 am poses a safety concern for students, due to our staff beginning their workday right at 7:30 am. Please support us in keeping our students safe at all times.

As the Thanksgiving season approaches us, we hope to give back to our community in the form of food baskets. We are asking each teacher and staff member to encourage all our DSS Hawks to bring canned goods and non-perishables items during the weeks of Nov. 3rd -Nov. 18th.

We will be reaching out to the local community for turkey and ham donations. We hope to collect many donations to add to the food baskets.

Once students begin bringing their donations, they can drop them off in Mrs. Ullery classroom, inside the cafeteria, and/or the office. There will be large boxes for them to place their items.

PTO: Parent League members will provide logistical support, requesting for community donations & arranging delivery of baskets to selected families.
