Learning Language Through Exciting Projects

Every year, SPS students who are learning English have the opportunity to join the Summer Program for English Language Learners (SPELL). Our educators provide a vocabulary-rich environment to support language learning, including engaging activities like robotics-building challenges with guidance from staff. SHS Publishes a Literary Magazine

Three talented Somerville High School students—Camille B., Rosalind B., and Anna B.— worked with Ms. Solorio-Fielder in an afterschool club to produce an SHS Literary magazine: The Somerville Muse. Dear SPS Community,

Welcome back to Somerville Public Schools for the 2025-26 school year! After a summer filled with learning and fun, we are pleased to see all of our students in classrooms again, eager and prepared to learn and grow. I am also grateful for the hard work by staff and educators who dedicated their time to prepare for the new year. This began with a wonderful Get Ready for School Fair in August. More than 1000 people attended to learn about our schools, meet SPS staff, and engage with representatives from partner programs and the City of Somerville. Thank you all for attending and supporting this great annual kick-off to the school year.

As always, I look forward to seeing you at our schools and within the Somerville community throughout the year!

With gratitude,

Dr. Rubén Carmona
