The Cougar Connection
Important announcements from Principal Lyman
November 2026 at Lake Canyon Elementary
Fall is here, the weather is changing, and there are so many great things happening at Lake Canyon! As we head into November, we look forward to another exciting month of learning, school activities, and opportunities to come together as a Cougar community. Our Kids Heart Challenge kicks off on November 5, encouraging students to learn about the importance of staying healthy and taking care of their hearts. There will be no school on November 11 in observance of Veterans Day. The end of the first trimester is November 13, which will be a minimum day with dismissal at 1:00 PM. On November 19, students will enjoy our awesome Bully Free BMX Assembly, which promotes the importance of being kind to everyone and treating others with respect. Thanksgiving Break is November 23–27, and there will be no school during that week. As a reminder, we encourage all families to complete the School Funding Benefit Form through Synergy. This form helps our school receive important funding that supports programs and services for our students. Please see the additional information below for details. As the weather gets cooler, please remind your child to check our Lost and Found for any missing jackets, sweatshirts, or other belongings. Thank you for being part of our Lake Canyon family! We wish everyone a wonderful November and a happy Thanksgiving!

School Funding Benefit Form: Help Support Lake Canyon Elementary! Families, please take a few minutes to complete the School Funding Form through ParentVUE. This form helps our District access funding through California’s Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), which supports programs, services, and resources for our students. Every completed form matters, even if you do not believe your family qualifies for additional assistance. You can complete the form through ParentVUE. Editable forms are also available and may be emailed to. A paper copy is available in the front office. Please contact the front office with any questions. Thank you for helping us maximize the resources available to support our Cougars!
School Dress Code: We would like to remind all families of the importance of following our school dress code and ensuring that students come to school dressed appropriately each day. Please take a few moments each morning to help your child select clothing that aligns with our school’s dress code guidelines. Clothing should be appropriate for a positive and focused learning environment. Your support helps us maintain a safe, respectful, and distraction-free environment for all students. If you have any questions about dress code expectations, please feel free to contact the school office. Thank you for your cooperation and continued partnership.
Arrival/Dismissal Traffic: Parents, we need your help with traffic congestion during arrival and dismissal times. Please do not to stop in the lane to let children out, this is unsafe and backs up the parking lot. Instead, please pull into a parking space. Also, cars need to pull all the way forward to keep traffic flowing. We also ask that families refrain from parking in crosswalks or in the Disabled Parking spaces without the appropriate placard, as these actions create unsafe conditions for students and staff. Together we can keep our students safe and traffic moving efficiently. Thank you for your efforts!
Attendance:
School attendance is important because it ensures students receive consistent academic
instruction, develops crucial social skills, and establishes good habits for future success.
Regular attendance helps children stay engaged and motivated, while frequent absences
can lead to a cycle of academic struggles. Parents can support their child's attendance by
creating routines, communicating with the school about challenges, and encouraging a
positive attitude towards being in school. Thank you for your support!
Dads on Duty:
Calling all dads! We are always looking for positive male role models to help on campus. Come be a part of our recess and play some games with our students. Please check with our office for clearance requirements if you are interested.
Houses United:
Lake Canyon utilizes a House System that consists of six different houses, Molori, Lokahi, Sebete, Adabu, Ferveur, and Tiyaga! The goal of the Lake Canyon House System is to strengthen our implementation of a supportive and engaging environment. Through the implementation of our House System students are encouraged to do their best. Click the link below to learn more about this amazing system. House System
PBIS Corner:
Lake Canyon utilizes a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system. Students are expected to Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible. At Lake Canyon, we are Cougars and are expected to show our "PAWS!"
- Pride
- Attitude
- Wise Choices
- Safety
November Focus: Pride – Showing pride means taking ownership of our actions, doing our best, and being proud of who we are and what we accomplish. Students can show pride by taking care of our school, putting effort into their work, treating others with respect, making wise choices, and representing Lake Canyon with a positive attitude. Remember, pride means doing the right thing even when no one is watching and always striving to be your best. When we show pride, we help make Lake Canyon a school where everyone feels valued, connected, and proud to be a Cougar!
