Principal Update 11/18/24
Good Morning Memorial Families,
With some colder weather popping up here and there now that we are deep into November, I think it is a good time to remind families of a few weather related topics.
Layering: We recommend that students wear layers this time of year. Some mornings are cold, but midday recesses are warmer. Some classrooms are more drafty while others are warmer. Due to fluctuating temperatures, it is good to make sure that your child who might like short sleeves and shorts has something to put on over it if they get cold.
Labeling: PLEASE put your child's first and last name on anything that could be "shed" from their bodies at recess. Coats, jackets, hats, scarves, mittens and gloves tend to get put down if it is a chilly morning but it warms up as the day goes on. We have many items already in our lost and found.
Snow Play: If we ever get any snow this year, we do allow students to go onto the field to play. In order to be allowed on the field with the snow, students must wear snowpants, boots, a coat, and gloves. If your child does not want to change into those items, we do have cleared space on the courts to play. We do go outside every day through the winter when the temperature is a "feels like" 20 or above. We monitor the weather throughout the morning and adjust based on the wind chill.
This Wednesday night at 6:00pm in the cafeteria, I will be sharing more about the shifts in the elementary progress reporting this year. I will have resources available for parents and this night should help you as you head into our first progress reporting period at parent-teacher conferences. While you will not receive a formal report card until the end of January, this time spent with your child's teacher will include information about how your child is progressing on the standards that we assess on the report card. If you have not yet scheduled a time to meet with your child's teacher, please be sure to do so this week.
Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Wendy
Dismissal Reminders
We try to keep both the bus and parent pick up lines running smoothly in the afternoons. Parents can help by making sure that you send in a note if your child has a change in dismissal routine so that we can ensure your child is in the right location for dismissal.
Also, as a reminder for after school care families, if you are arriving before 3:30pm, you should plan to change your child's dismissal to parent pick up. You can not drive around the back of the building between 3:00-3:30 due to busses being back there.
And finally, the police department is asking that all parents who are doing parent pick up arrive from the northbound side of route 140 so that you can turn right into the driveway. It is a hazard to try to turn left from the southbound side and it is causing a back up on both sides of the road.
Thank you for your cooperation!
