Understanding School Attendance ๐Ÿซ

Maysville R-1 students are in session for a total of 150 school days per school year.

Our district goal is to have every student in attendance at least 95% of the time.
This would mean all students are in attendance for at least 142.5 days, allowing for 7.5 days of absences for the school year, or roughly 3-4 days per semester.

90% attendance of 150 days is 135 days. Being absent 10% of those 150 days is equal to 15 days of absences, or roughly 7-8 per semester.

Missing that many days of school in a single school year can be damaging to students and their academic growth, social emotional development, and behavior. See the image below for more information on how absences can really add up, and not in a good way!

Remember, we want to see Every Wolverine, Every Day! ๐Ÿ’–

District Attendance ๐ŸŽฏ

With two weeks of school complete, our district attendance results can be found below.

Both elementary and JH/HS are sitting around the 97% mark (AWESOME JOB!), with JH/HS just barely beating out the elementary for a higher attendance.

Check back next week to see the updated results! ๐Ÿ’ช

Message from the Principal ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Dear Maysville Elementary Families,

As we begin the new school year, students will soon participate in our beginning-of-year district benchmark assessments. These assessments help teachers understand what students already know, identify areas where additional support may be needed, and establish a starting point for measuring academic growth throughout the year.

Benchmark assessments are one of many tools teachers use to guide instruction. They are not meant to be stressful for students, but rather to help us make informed decisions about how we can best support each child.

Please encourage your child to do their best, get a good nightโ€™s rest, and arrive at school ready to learn. We appreciate your partnership as we work together to help every student have a successful school year!

Thank you for supporting Maysville Elementary!

Dr. Janelle Ballard
Elementary Principal

Behavior Expectations ๐Ÿซ

This year, we are promoting the acronym ROAR. Our Wolverines can show ROAR by being Responsible, Outstanding learners, Always safe, and Respectful. To help your child know and succeed, please use the ROAR matrix to review these expectations with your child.

It has been exciting to watch students utilize ROAR and practice their best school expectations!

Arrival & Dismissal ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿš—

As we prepare for the first day of school, we have a few important reminders to help ensure dismissal goes smoothly and safely for all of our students.

Transportation Changes:
Please let your childโ€™s teacher know how your child will be getting home on the first day of school and what their regular transportation plan will be on school days moving forward.

If your childโ€™s transportation plan is different from their regular plan, please alert the school office so we can make sure everyone has the correct information.

For any transportation changes during the school year, please notify the school office by 2:30 p.m. This will help us communicate changes to teachers and ensure students are dismissed safely.

School Forms:
Please remember to return all required school forms by September 1st. Thank you for taking the time to complete these forms and provide us with the information we need to support your child.

Keep it upโ€”we are off to a GREAT start! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ–ค

Last week, our staff participated in Thankful Thursday!

Each staff member selected a student who demonstrated true Wolverine characteristics during the first two weeks of school and reached out to their parent or guardian to share the good news and celebrate their student.

We are excited to recognize these students for making a positive impact and starting the year strong! Keep leading by example and showing what it means to be a Wolverine.

Congratulations to our Thankful Thursday studentsโ€”we are so proud of you! ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

Dress Code ๐Ÿ‘•

Last week, we reviewed our dress code expectations with students and reminded them of the importance of following the guidelines outlined in our student handbook. Our dress code helps maintain a safe, respectful, and school-appropriate environment while establishing consistent expectations for all students.
