A BUNCH of Bears! A BUNCH of Bears!

Dear Bluffsview Families,

Bluffsview Families,

Today was our first Bear Bunch! Bear Bunch is a fun activity we do throughout the year for our older and younger students to interact more. Our time spent together is working on connecting and character building. Each group has a student leader who is a 5th grade student that has applied and shown leadership qualitities. Our first lesson this year was around our theme, "Be the One"! We listened to a read aloud by Susan Verde and Peter Reynolds called, I Am One: A Book of Action. We then spent time together brainstorming and deciding how we can make a difference in our community. Please ask your child about Bear Bunch and what they will do to make a difference. If your child was a little anxious, that is normal. It was our first time and it was in a new place with different people. However, activities like Bear Bunch, help us all to learn and grow!

Next week, we have our Bear Run and our Fall Parties and Parade! See below for all the details!

Honored to be a Bear,

Julie L. Payne, Principal

PS- More Fall Fun on the Horizon!

Bear Run- October 28th at 5:30

Fall Parade and Parties- October 30th at 1:30

Join us behind the school to watch your child parade in their costume for this fun fall tradition. If the weather is bad, the kids will parade inside the school and parents will be able to view from the gym or cafeteria.

Fall Friday Fun- Party and Parade Details!

We will be having our Fall Classroom Parties on Friday, October 30th. Parties will be held at around 1:00 (exact time will come from communication from your child’s teacher) with the parade from about 1:30-1:40 pm and parties concluding by 2:10.

Volunteers

We ask that classroom volunteers be limited to a few per classroom (this usually is the Room Reps) and that each volunteer has a set role. All volunteers should arrive no earlier than 12:45 to help set up for the class parties. Upon arrival, please report to the office to sign in and obtain a visitor badge. Please be sure you have your driver's license or School Safe ID pass to sign in.

Party Snacks

All food being served must be from the PTA approved list that was provided to Room Reps and also cleared with the teacher (Food being served will be shared via classroom teacher a week before the party so that parents can confirm if it is a safe item for their children).

Costumes

Costumes are allowed for Fall Parties, but are not required. As you help your child plan their costume please remind them that nothing overly scary or gory is allowed. The easiest costume to put on over clothes is appreciated and please keep unnecessary accessories at home so they don’t get lost. Please send costumes in your child’s backpack and label anything you can. Also, they must be able to put their costume on independently and walk in it. Inflatable costumes are permitted as long as the child can walk without trouble. No face paint please. Due to time constraints with dismissal, your child will most likely come home in their costume. It is helpful if you talk to your child about this ahead of time so they know what to expect.

Parade

Parents are welcome to watch the parade. If you are coming to watch the parade, you do not need to sign in. Please walk around to the back of the building and the parade will walk the perimeter of the blacktop. You are welcome to stand in the middle of the black top or view from the grass. Please DO NOT park in the bus lane. Our buses and day care buses will arrive by 2:00. If you can walk to the school for the parade, please do as it will help with parking and dismissal.

Dismissal

Lastly, safety is always our number one priority. If you bring younger children to watch, please keep them by your side at all times. Also, as you can imagine, the end of the day is quite hectic as we want to ensure that every child gets home safely. We ask that, if at all possible, your child takes their regular mode of transportation. If you MUST take your child early please be sure to send a yellow note in with them at the beginning of the day. (If you want them to be picked up at the school in lieu of them riding the bus, have a yellow note for them to be a walker and pick them up on the playground.) Transportation changes at the last minute often cause confusion for the child(ren), family and our staff.

Inclement Weather Plan

We will watch the weather and if it looks like we will not be able to hold the parade outside we will send a Talking Points text message to all parents around noon on Friday. At that point, we will move the parade inside and parents will be able to watch from the gym or cafeteria. Please still plan to have your child take their regular form of transportation.

Please let us know if you have questions or concerns. We want this time to be fun for all!

Honoring our Veterans

Honoring the Veterans in our Bluffsview Family

At Bluffsview, we are proud of our Veterans! We are diligently planning our Veterans Day Assembly for this year, the 4th graders are learning the music for their performance, and the celebration will be here before we know it. Our Veterans Day Assembly will be held on Wednesday, November 11th, 2026 in the Bluffsview Gymnasium. Seating will begin at 8:45am with the program beginning shortly afterwards at approximately 8:55am.

To include information about your Veteran in our slideshow, please fill out this Google Form. Also, be sure to send a picture to Mrs. Daubney at cdaubney@wscloud.org if you want it to be included. If a photo is not sent, the official seal of the military branch will be included with your Veteran’s slide. Deadline to be included in the slideshow is Wednesday, November 4th.

Would you like to attend our assembly with your Veteran? Are you the parent of a 4th grader who is singing in the assembly? Please fill out this RSVP Form to let us know that you plan to attend. Due to space constraints, we ask that you only attend if you are bringing a Veteran or active service member, or are the parent of a 4th grader. The assembly will also be recorded and a link will be sent out to the entire school. Deadline to RSVP is Monday, November 9th.

Thank you so much for helping us to celebrate and honor the Veterans in our Bluffsview community!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Claire Daubney

We are excited for another year of our Bluffsview Bears Cross Country program. We will be running on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday! All students who are interested in running or walking laps on a determined course on the playground on scheduled “Bears Running” days will be able to track their amount of laps across the “season” of recess running. They will earn small reward shoe tokens when having reached various mileage marks over the course of the season. We will also participate in optional races hosted by other Worthington Elementary schools throughout the fall. For more information check out our website and our Facebook page.

Writing Opportunities at Thurber House!

Hello!

It finally feels like fall today! I hope you are enjoying the changing leaves and cooler temperatures.

Regardless, I wanted to send a quick reminder that our fall Pen and Tell It! workshops start November 1! These one-day creative writing workshops for 2nd-8th graders, let students use their imaginations and try their hand at different activities. We have everything from rule breaking poetry to pop-up book making to superheroes and more! The classes take place on Sundays, November 8, 15, and 22.

I am attaching our flier in hopes that you can share it however possible with your students. Feel free to email or copy the flyer and you can direct them to the webpage at https://www.thurberhouse.org/pen-and-tell-it where they can get all of the information and register. There are multiple classes to choose from and a 10% discount if you register for more than one class and/or more than one student.

Don’t forget that we can also bring creative writing programs to your school, too! We love visiting classrooms and inspiring students to think about writing in new ways. You can find more information here and reach out to me for our new discount: https://www.thurberhouse.org/community-childrens-writing-programs

Thank you in advance for your assistance in getting the word out about our programs. If you have questions, feel free to contact me at this email or by phone at 614-412-8840.

Happy fall!
