Principal's Welcome for Week May 4th-8th
Dear team,
Our moment is here! This week we begin SBA testing for our 11th graders and progressing through our SLP's. Through your collective efforts we have ensured and continued ensuring that every student is prepared, confident, and fully supported to demonstrate their learning.
This moment reflects the sustained efforts we have invested since the summer—through professional development, common planning, lesson study, and the focused work of our Instructional Leadership Teams and Professional Learning Communities.
We will continue prioritizing class observation to monitor the following:
Evidence of rigorous, standards-based instruction aligned to grade-level expectations
Small group instruction and strategic supports that ensure meaningful access for all learners—particularly our targeted student groups, including Black students, English Learners, and students with disabilities.
As highlighted in our recent Impact Review, we must continue our shift from teacher-directed to student-led learning. This is essential to ensuring our students are not only engaged, but are actively developing the skills they need to think, communicate, and perform independently.
To that end, please remain intentional in the following areas:
- Integrated ELD (iELD): Plan deliberately for structured opportunities where students are speaking, writing, and engaging in meaningful academic discourse.
- Language Objectives: Alongside your Content Objectives, clearly identify and communicate Language Objectives that target academic grammar, vocabulary, and discourse. These should be visible, explicit, and reinforced throughout the lesson.
- Student Ownership: Gradually release responsibility so students are doing the cognitive heavy lifting—discussing, problem-solving, and explaining their thinking.
- Performance Task Skills: Incorporate performance task elements into your targeted intervention structures, including opportunities for on-demand writing and the use of data to guide instruction and monitor progress.
Staying the course does not mean ignoring what is happening around us—it means providing a steady, purposeful learning environment where students can continue to grow, feel supported, and build confidence in their abilities.
Thank you for your continued commitment to our students and to this important work.
Con carino,
Mrs. Arce
ETO Teacher Summer Professional Development (May–June 2026)
