Winnona ParkWeekly Update

December 18, 2025

Dear Winnona Park Families,

This is the last e-blast of 2025, so I would like to take a moment to express my appreciation for this school community. Thank you to all the parents who help this school thrive by volunteering, giving to the PTA and reading to or with your child every night. Most recently, we would like to thank our PTA for all the support (including the fabulous lunches and breakfasts) provided throughout the school year.

I am also so appreciative of the WP staff. They are smart, hardworking, passionate about public education, and are a joy to work with every day. Lastly, the reason we’re here is the students. Watching all 222 kiddos work hard socially, emotionally and academically gives me that proud papa feeling. Way to go, Winnona Park Crew!!

Sincerely,

Greg Wiseman

Principal, Winnona Park Elementary School

WP Needs Your Help

Thank you to the 66 of you who completed the GA School climate survey. However, as you can see, we are not near the 77% response rate we achieved last year. As your last official school act of the year, please take a few moments to complete this survey for us. The data is important to us! Here’s the link.

STAR Testing Update

All of the Universal Screening assessments (STAR Math, Early Literacy, and Reading) have been completed. These computerized adaptive tests help teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth. You will receive a letter, along with the STAR reports, in your child’s Thursday Communication folder today, December 18, 2025. As part of the Georgia Early Literacy legislation, we are sharing these Universal Screening results and communicating whether an academic risk has been identified. This allows us to identify needs and plan for the appropriate interventions early. You may find the STAR Family Information site and this video about the difference between Star Early Literacy and Reading helpful as well.

Dr. Hicks' Kindness Campaign

Hello, WP Students and Families!

You’re invited to “Be the i in Kind!” by joining our kindness campaign! In my lessons this week, students have started writing kind notes to teachers and a note with a positive affirmation as a kindness to themselves. You’re invited to write a kind note to any WP staff member to add to our display. I plan to distribute notes to the recipients before the semester break.

To add your messages to our kindness display, please find templates for color printing here and black-and-white printing here. I’m reading The Kindness Snowflake by Jen Brewer with students. If you’d like to read it and talk about it as a family, you can listen here. The main takeaway from the book is that small acts of kindness add up and make a big difference.

It’s been so fun seeing students’ enthusiasm for this effort. I hope you’ll join us!
