Treaty Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that Killam Public School is on Treaty 6 territory - the ancestral and traditional land of many Indigenous groups. We are grateful for the animals, the water and the forests that provide us with many resources we use each day. We are thankful for the diverse opportunities that this land offers. We respect the land in which we gather on today.

Principal's Message
What a busy and exciting October we’ve had at KPS! From learning about fire safety with a visit from the Killam Fire Department in Kindergarten to practicing bus evacuations as a whole school, our students have been building important safety skills. We also enjoyed school pictures, wrapped up our Cross Country season, and kicked off our Hot Lunch program!
Our volleyball teams have been busy competing in games and tournaments, and we’ve had some wonderful whole-school fun with pumpkin carving and an AMAZING Haunted House and Halloween Carnival planned and run by our Junior High students. A huge shout-out to our Grade 7–9 students for their creativity, leadership, and hard work in making this such a memorable experience for everyone!
As we head into November, the days are getting shorter and the weather is getting colder. Please ensure students come to school dressed for the weather, including warm coats, hats, mittens, and appropriate footwear for outdoor recess. A reminder that students will continue to head outside when weather permits, so being prepared makes a big difference!
Thank you to our amazing staff, students, and families for making October such a wonderful month at KPS. I’m so proud of the learning, teamwork, and school spirit happening in our building every day.
Digital Citizenship: Our Choices Matter
Creating a safe, respectful and welcoming school community is a shared responsibility—both online and in person. As part of our digital citizenship learning, students are being reminded that the choices they make online can have an impact on themselves and others.
Students are encouraged to:
Post. Pause. Think. Stop and think before posting, sending, liking or sharing.
Don’t join in. What we say, share and do online can affect other people.
Check in. If something online does not feel right, talk to a trusted adult.
Speak up. If you see something that could hurt someone, tell an adult who can help.
Know when to step away. Sometimes the best choice is to put the device down and be present with the people around us.
We want every student to know that they have a role in creating a kind and positive online community. If something online feels confusing, uncomfortable or unsafe, they can always talk to a trusted adult at school.
Our goal is not to keep students away from technology, but to help them develop the skills and good decision-making they need to use it safely, responsibly and respectfully.
We appreciate parents reinforcing these same messages regularly at home and in the community. Supporting student safety and wellness is a shared responsibility, and consistent messaging across school, home, and community can strengthen its impact. By working together, we can help students develop the awareness, skills, and habits that support safety and well-being.
