The LMS Express
May 24, 2024
The countdown is officially on, and it is bittersweet! The Spring Concert was a tremendous success, sports teams are winding down their seasons, classes are in the final push to wrap up the year strong, and the sun is shining to help keep us all smiling. With state testing behind us and step-up day around the corner, sights are being set on the 2024-2025 school year. But we aren't done with 2023-2024 quite yet!
I hope everyone has a nice long weekend as we remember and honor those that gave their lives in service to our country. Happy Memorial Day to all.
Thanks for reading another LMS Express full of great LMS news!
Be well,
Tom

Baking with King Arthur Flour
This week fifth grade students participated in an interactive lesson learning some of the basics of baking. We had a wonderful visit with a baking instructor from King Arthur Flour and the Bake for Good program. Leanne taught us all the steps to make delicious bread every time. Ruby Noel and Zach Wanders were our student baking assistants. We learned to fluff, sprinkle, and sweep to make a perfect cup of flour every time. We also learned the fold, roll, and turn method for kneading our dough. Students are going to bake their bread at home and we will be collecting donations on May 28th and also on June 3rd and sharing fresh loaves with the Upper Valley Haven Food Shelf. Ask your student what dental floss has to do with making amazing cinnamon rolls.
Ruby Noel and Zach Wanders learn to toss a pizza. They did great!
Field Day & Field Trips
Field Day and Field Trips are coming up quickly! Please remember to apply and/or supply sunscreen, hats, and water bottles on June 10th, and any other field trip days that may be upcoming for your student. Clothing layers are of course always a good idea with our cool mornings and warm afternoons. Thanks for you help with this.

LMS Softball & Baseball
The 2024 LMS Spring Athletics season has been filled with fun and excitement. The LMS "A" Baseball squad has had a fantastic start to the season sporting a 9-0 record so far and outscoring opponents 95-6. The LMS "B" Baseball team has been playing teams tough this year. Two victories over Hartford and most recently a hard fought 5-5 tie with arch rival Hanover shows that the squad has made positive gains out on the diamond. The "B" team closes out the season with three out of the next five games at home over at Eldridge Field.
The LMS Softball team has made great strides since the preseason. Despite having to play their first 5 games of the season all on the road, the team has fought hard in every game and leaves it all out on the field. Their spirit and effort are making fans and the community proud of this Raiders team. Three out of the next four games are all at home so come out and support the team!

News from Nurse Gage
Allergy action plans:
If your student has been diagnosed with a life threatening allergy that requires them to have an epi pen, it is very important that the school nurse have an updated allergy action plan, signed and dated by your student's doctor. The school needs a new one every year, and medical providers are aware of this. The plan should state if the student is to keep their epipen in the nurse's office, or if they are able to keep it on their person ("self carry".)
**For the safety of your student(s), the school nurse should be made aware of all allergies they may have, whether they are considered life threatening or not.
Asthma action plan:
If your student has been diagnosed with asthma and they are prescribed an inhaler, it is very important that the school nurse have an updated asthma action plan, signed and dated by your student's doctor. This plan needs to be updated annually. The plan should specify if your student is to keep their inhaler in the nurse's office, or if they are able to keep it on their person ("self carry".)
**In order to keep your student(s) safe, knowing about anything that involves their breathing is very important.
If you are not sure if I am aware of your student(s) health condition(s), or if you and I have not previously discussed them, please contact me so I can make sure I have what I need to do my job, which is to keep your student(s) as safe as possible as they navigate their way through middle school.
LMS Mathletes
At the Junior All Star Meet there were about 30 students in attendance. We had Jett Luce, Kevin Thai, and Samuel Buckwold representing LMS. They had to take 5 10 minute tests covering topics at the 7th and 8th grade level from all year. The topics were given to us the day before the event so there was little time to prepare for this specific competition. They presented awards in tiers.
We had students in the tier 5, 4, and 1st categories!! Kevin ranked 18 out of 30, Jett ranked 13 out of 30 and Samuel Buckwold was the top scorer for the whole event with 28 total points!
Fall 2024 LMS Sports Sign-Ups
All current 6th and 7th graders were invited to a meeting with Mr. Franklin and Mr. Harkins over the past couple of weeks. We went over expectations and eligibility requirements for those hoping to play fall sports next year. Third trimester grades will impact sixth and seventh graders’ eligibility for fall athletics and activities. You can click here for the expectations that were discussed.
Also, 2024 LMS Fall Athletic sign ups open on Monday, May 13th. LMS sponsors 7th/8th grade Football, 7th/8th grade Field Hockey and Golf. Parents/Guardians will need to register their student via Arbiter Sports.

End of Year Library Information
And just like that we are staring at the end of the school year! While the library continues to be open, books and materials stop circulating a couple of weeks before the last day of school. With hundreds of books in circulation right now, please remind your student of our final due date of 2023-24! All books checked out by students must be returned by Wednesday, May 29. This allows us time to follow up with overdues, track down missing items, prepare to inventory our collection and order replacement copies when necessary.
Access to SORA ebooks, audiobooks and magazines will continue to be available through the rest of the school year and summer. There are many titles available to enjoy. There are also a number of ebooks available via our database subscriptions, especially for those who enjoy nonfiction. Students have all been taught how to access these resources, but we are always here to help if they need a refresher!
Don't forget that we have amazing public libraries in Lebanon and Grantham. There are links on our website library page for hours and catalog searching. Librarians from the Lebanon Libraries will be here chatting with students about summer reading on Wednesday, May 29, during all lunch and recess times.
We will also continue to stock our Little Free Library with fresh titles! Take a book. Share a book. There are Little Free Libraries located throughout the city and beyond!

Last Call for LHS Senior Notes
The end is in sight for the Class of 2024, and all of you have been part of their journey. We invite you to participate in our tradition of “Senior Notes.”
The tradition of "Senior Notes" began in 2015 when two LHS students asked staff/mentors to write notes with good wishes to graduating seniors. We have continued this tradition and plan to distribute notes along with diplomas on June 6th. If you know any of our graduates personally, or remember them fondly, please consider writing a note or two.
If you choose to participate, please complete notes by the end of May. If you send emails, we will reformat them so they look nice. You are also welcome to send a note or card in the mail or drop it by the front office at the high school. All of this is optional, but we have heard many comments about how much this has meant to students in the past. This is the list of graduates.
Thanks, and congratulations to the class of 2024.
Please let Bonnie know if you have any questions. brobinson@sau88.net
