Family Engagement Events

In October, we have 3 events that provide families with the opportunity to engage with their child's classroom. First, at the Vocab Parade you can see the whole class community and then at Watch Me Work, you get to be in your child's classroom. Both of these lead right into Parent/Teacher Conferences - a time to talk about the classroom and learn more about your child's experience! We know three events in one month is a lot but each are important for different reasons!

Vocabulary Parade

What is a Vocabulary Parade? On Friday, October 16th the children will bring a “costume” to school. Costumes are a way to show your understanding of an age-appropriate vocabulary word of your choice. For the parade, students will put on their costume, walk down French St. showcasing their costume (we close down the street), and everyone will deepen their understanding of words! Families are invited to the parade!

Watch Me Work Day

Are you curious to find out what happens during the day at FSMA? Then this is the parent engagement event for you! Come and see your child in action in his/her classroom (K – 6th Grade)… you will shadow your child, watching what they do, to get a feel for what their learning is like. You will likely see how they manage time using their work plan, how they interact with their peers, and you will witness the independent learning that is abundant in our classrooms.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

What to expect at your child’s conference? Now that you’ve been in the classroom for “Watch Me Work,” you can talk about your child’s approach to work and the skills they are building towards independence. Your teacher will also share data about your child’s academic and social performance so that you leave the conference with a clear picture of how your child is doing in all areas.

Middle School Basketball

Just a reminder that any 6th, 7th or 8th graders that are interested in playing basketball need to have their DIAA physical forms submitted by the tryout (which occur before Thanksgiving break). More information can be found on our website.
