Tiger Talk
03/10/26

This will be a really exciting, short week since our Tigers' spring break begins Friday, March 13!. I hope all of our Tigers will enjoy their Field Days that Coaches Williams and Mayes have been organizing. Please pardon our last-minute changes. The updated Field Day schedules are posted a little farther down in this newsletter. We did our best to arrange the days so that families can come and enjoy the events, too. We had to rearrange a few of our lunch times, too, in order to make this happen. If you plan to have lunch with your Tiger(s) March 11 or 12, be sure to check the schedule changes.
Meanwhile, I wish all of you a fun spring break. Be safe in your travels. Our Tigers return on a ROAR Day, 7:40 am on Monday, March 23. As you may recall, ROAR Days are Tiger reset days. We have no visitors on our campus on ROAR Days. If you plan to join your Tiger(s) for lunch after spring break, please remember to avoid the ROAR Day, March 23.
It's also that time of year when we begin making plans for the upcoming school year. With that in mind, I am including a link to my 2026-2027 Tiger Parent Input Form so that parents/guardians of our current Kinder - 4th graders, have an opportunity to share information with us that will be helpful to us in placing our Tiger(s) in classes that will best support successful learning. The input form is due Friday, April 17.
Enjoy your spring break!
With warmest regards,
Amy Russ, Principal

West Cypress Hills Elementary's Annual Career Day will be taking place on May 11, 2026. Presentations by family and community members will happen at the following times:
Kindergarten: 9:00-10:20
1st Grade: 11:05-12:25

Career education and exploration begins in elementary school. Our mission and vision is to inspire and prepare students for success in the future! By introducing our Tigers to a broad range of career possibilities, we hope to ignite new interests as they consider their future careers. With your help, Tigers can discover new possibilities for themselves and feel empowered to follow their dreams.
We are looking for family members and community members who would be willing to speak to classes of students about your jobs. Speakers should be prepared to present a 15-20 minute presentation to a full classroom up to 4 times per grade level. Presentation content should include:
-Background information about yourself
-When you first knew that you wanted to pursue this job or industry
-What education or experience was required for your current position
-The most difficult part of your job
-The most rewarding part of your job
Speakers will also have an opportunity to "show and tell" with props, photos, video clips, or demonstrations. Finally, they will be able to answer student questions.
If you are interested in participating in this exciting and rewarding day, please fill out this interest form!
Our SEL team will choose presenters representing a variety of careers in a variety of industries. Please note that you may not be assigned to present in your student's grade level. If this is the case, we can make accommodations to allow your student(s) to be with you during your presentation, if you'd like.
The application window will close on Friday, March 27, for scheduling purposes. Thank you!
Thank you in advance for your involvement at WCHE! We truly appreciate your time and effort to make this an inspiring day for our students.
Best regards,
Bryn Lohrberg, Counselor

Attention LTISD Parents and Guardians,
The Discovery Program, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is now accepting parent referrals for KINDERGARTEN G/T Screening via this Google form.
The Elementary Discovery Program is a cross-curricular thematic-based pullout program for students in grades K-5. Participating students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment. To be identified as gifted and talented, each student must undergo a screening and selection process. Assessment opportunities are made available once per school year.
If you feel your child is a good candidate for the G/T screening process, please fill out the link below. The deadline to register is March 12 at 3 pm. More information about the program can be found on the Lake Travis ISD Gifted & Talented website.
Referral link for Kinder students only - deadline March 12, 2026 @ 3:00 PM.
Tiger Yearbook Dedication Deadline Extended to March 15!
Be sure to order yours no later than March 15!
Personalization options available for purchase, too.
School Library Advisory Council
In response to Senate Bill 13, our Board of Trustees has established the Lake Travis ISD School Library Advisory Council (SLAC.) The purpose of the SLAC is to formalize a collaborative process between librarians, parents, and community members in the ongoing development of strong library collections that support student achievement and meet state standards. This process helps ensure transparency, parent involvement, and a strong library program that strengthens student achievement while nurturing a lifelong appreciation, habit, and love of reading.
The SLAC works with librarians and district staff to develop a recommended list of library materials for procurement, including donated titles. At least 30 days before the Board’s vote, the proposed procurement list will be made publicly available for parents and community members to review and provide feedback. The Board will review these recommendations, consider any proposed changes, and make the final decision to approve or reject the materials. The SLAC will also recommend procedures for handling challenges to library materials and review challenges according to law before making recommendations to the Board.
Visit the SLAC webpage to access the Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List, Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List Feedback Form, and the Library Materials Challenge Form.
For questions or additional information regarding SLAC reviews or library material challenges, please contact Tasha Barker at watersbarkert@ltisdschools.org, or at 512-533-6036.
Contact Coach Williams or Coach Mayes to share the good news about new shoe-tying talents!
Lock Down Drill - Monday, March 30 @ 9:30 am
Dear West Cypress Hills Elementary School Parents and Guardians,
A critical component of school safety is the classroom response to an incident on campus. The Standard Response Protocol, or SRP, is a proven method of creating shared language and actions among students, staff, and first responders during a school emergency. Since its adoption in August 2019, students across our district have received an introduction and overview of the SRP including classroom practices and drills.
Our staff and students will take part in a lockdown drill on Monday, March 30, 2026, at approximately 9:30 am. As a result, parents, students, and visitors to our school may see law enforcement officers, safety vehicles and/or other emergency responders onsite during this time. Once the drill has been initiated, teachers will immediately suspend all instruction, and students will receive further directions from their teachers regarding the drill.
Once the drill has been completed, all instruction will resume as scheduled. The drill is scheduled to occur at approximately 9:30 in the morning and should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Our teachers and students have been advised of the drill and are prepared to participate.
We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support during this time. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Amy Russ
Principal, West Cypress Hills Elementary School
