A Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

It is hard to believe that we are in the second week of November. November is a wonderful time to pause and reflect on the many things we’re thankful for here at Heritage School. As the season changes and we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, our classrooms are filled with learning, kindness, and gratitude.

We’d like to extend a special thank you to the Charlton Fire Department for their generous donation of a “First In" Bag. This emergency medical kit will help us respond quickly in health-related situations and ensure the continued safety of our students and staff. We truly appreciate their ongoing partnership and support of our school community.

Throughout the month, students will be engaging in activities that highlight thankfulness, community, and giving back. We encourage families to take time together to talk about gratitude and the importance of helping others.

As we head toward the holiday season, we remain grateful for our amazing students, dedicated staff, and supportive families who make Heritage School such a special place to learn and grow.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and restful Thanksgiving!

Important Dates to Remember:

  • November 21st: Substitute Appreciation Day

  • November 21st: Term 1 Ends

  • November 26th: Early Release Day

  • November 27th-30th: Thanksgiving Recess

Please also remember to follow us on Facebook for updates, reminders, and highlights of school activities. We have many exciting events coming up in December, and I look forward to sharing them with you soon.

Thank you once again for all that you do to support our students and our school. Wishing you and your family a peaceful and joyful Thanksgiving!

Congratulations to DCEF GRANT Recipients Congratulations to DCEF GRANT Recipients

Heritage School is so pleased to have received three grants from our Dudley Charlton Education Foundation. Foundation members were on hand at all of the schools last week to present the grants. We received a grant through Mrs. Paquette for an Artist In Residence Program, a grant to install an Intuitive Feedback Platform to be used to survey family, student and staff experiences and identify satisfaction rates, and a grant for an Escape Room Activity through an application from Mrs. D’Arcangelo. Congratulations to all DCEF grant recipients.

Please make sure you find a way to support this organization as they are extremely supportive of all the schools in the Dudley Charlton system.

Cold Weather Reminder: Please Send a Coat!

As the colder weather arrives, we want to make sure all students stay warm and comfortable throughout the school day. Please remember to send your child to school with a coat each day. We go outside for recess as long as conditions allow, and proper outerwear helps keep everyone safe and cozy. Also, if you have any needs regarding winter wear please do not hesitate to contact myself or one of the school nurses. We have resources available to help. Thank you for your support in helping our students be prepared for the changing weather!

Lost and Found:

Our Lost and Found is growing! If you notice that your child is missing a coat, lunchbox, water bottle, or other item, please have them check the Lost and Found area. Families are also welcome to stop by before or after school.

Please label your child’s belongings—labeled items are much easier for us to return!

Grade 2 Classes Supporting Veterans

In 2008 during the Iraqi war Heritage School had a penpal program where classes could write to military personnel during their deployment. Ms. Deterando’s class wrote letters to a member of the Airforce and sent stockings filled with goodies for his entire motor pool during the holidays. In return, they sent her class a photo; an American flag that had been flown in a Viper Plane for 3 hours during battle. Each student also was given an official Air Force coin.

Fast forward 2025 and that same Airman reached out and asked if she was still teaching and if she would be interested in having the children write again, for he was being deployed to Kuwait. This time, however, he is higher up in the ranks and is in charge of 60 plus men and women as well as civilian contractors…over 100 people in total! Of course she jumped on the opportunity!

The photo above shows the Airmen and women with the cards and letters sent from our students.
